As cynical and paranoid as this may sound, I'd imagine there will be a lot of money moved under the table.

NO guarantees and the ones which exist, won't be enforced.

Does anyone remember the agreement Stagecoach and Virgin entered into fir West Coast, only to then renegade on it?

Poor Beardy. Musk didn't get rid of the branding and risk for no reaxon.

I do have more confidence in this as a low volume luxury thing but physics are physics.

If it's low volume, luxury ticket for the rich few there's no way it will get planning permission to disrupt the lives of the rest of us.
Oh, wait. I forgot which country we've become.

I doubt it's practical or worthwhile in the UK. America, yes. Lots of space and huge distances. In the UK I just don't see the application. Even if it was feasible.

Is this another form of transport like Maglev.....? (Expensive)

“There are three criteria you need to fulfil. The first is having a large city at both ends; the second is a distance required of about 500 miles because if the cities are too close it’s not worth going fast and if they are too far air-travel comes into its own; and the third is having no existing railway. There are a very limited number of cases where all these criteria are obtained.”
