Meanwhile BT keeps being left behind.

I have the choice of a full 1GBit FTTP, with City Fibre or 300-400Mbit 5G speeds through my phone, via hotspot.

I live in a town in Dorset with a populous of ~30,000. STILL no sign of any FTTP services. Still stuck on 45Mbits, which, for 2021 is absolutely disgusting given I live in an 'urban' area. Meanwhile our council is spending around 6 million on fibre infrastructure for THIER buildings only. Joke.

My town of 10000+ is still not on any lists has no vm or any other options (4g is 8mb slow if you can get it). It does feel like we're never going to be noticed despite more rural exchanges surrounding us being on the list for a while.

On the one hand, finally getting 900Mbps is lovely, even if I do have to pay top drawer for it.... but on the other hand, I know they only put it in here because they're going to bulldoze the farms and countryside in order to build a load more overpriced commuter homes.

Don't believe what BT says - just because you live where they are installing it does not mean you will have access. BT have installed normal (FTTC) fibre to some of my village, however, the 'stayfast guarantee' is 3mbs (laughable) on my road!

I hate the way BT will email me with a broadband deal after <sighs> almost 20 years of being a loyal customer and when you look its more expensive than the same deal for a new customer.

Big joke really. My area has 76K population and due in 2026 but some small areas are years ahead of mine. I live in a rural area area so basically BT aren't interested. I only get 25-30 MBS the UK broadband is just a laugh. So much for leveling up LOL.

I live in Pentre Halkyn, Wales. It's super quiet, small, with nothing going on. We have FTTP. Yep, full speed.

    Why?

There's a local politician living in the immediate area. Usual.

Re: Openreach adds 170 towns and villages to FTTP rollout plan

Isn't starlink going to be cheaper and probably faster for you all? He's already got 700K customers signed and hitting 300MBps+. If that is $100 for unlimited phone, ISP, CableTV (deal with trump or all his content or something), he'll rake in the customers.

He's talking 50B a year NET income IIRC, so that's a LOT of the earth at a decent rate and acceptable speeds for most people (5x my speed right now even at 300, but we just don't pay more than $90 for it).

I entirely agree, about the principle, though I'm not a BT customer.

But it's the way of the world these days. There's no such thing as loyalty to customers .... loyalty probably being the wrong word .... if there ever was. No "respect" from the vast majority of companies for those that have been loyal to them. A few, maybe, but not most. Instead, what a 'loyal' customer is to most is a mug that is either too stupid, or suffers too much from inertia, to bother to look around and is therefore a ripe target for plucking.

I hate it, but these days, you do your own research and hunting around, or you get ripped off. Truthfully, it's been like that for a long time, maybe always was, but its more naked and obvious these days.

Reluctantly, I'm now a customer 'gadfly'. Other than for those rare exceptions, I have as much respect for and loyalty to suppliers as they have for me - none.

The worst? IMHO, banks and insurance companies.

Anyone have any idea how long it takes BT to start offering FTTP after the cabling has been done on your road? Our road finally got finished last week and I'm desperate to upgrade.

Still not on it, that's quite upsetting.
