Gigabyte, purveyor of high-quality motherboards and recognised partner for both ATI and NVIDIA graphics cards, was keen to jump on the X1800 XL bandwagon. Without further ado, then, let's take a look at the company's GV-RX18L256V-B graphics card. Better known to you as an ATI Radeon X1800 XL 256MB, does it have what it takes to be a consideration for purchase? And, more importantly, is it the must-have PCI-Express graphics accelerator this side of £300?

Well the 7800GT is still a slightly better card but at least the XL makes a decent showing. Being an ATi fan I'd still wind up with a x1800xl.

mmh... i'm potentially thinking about either a 1800XL or 7800GT upgrade at the moment, but despite being a ATI fan, am leaning towards the 7800GT simply for one reason - noise. everything else in my case is pretty quiet and the GT seems to have the edge here (esp. as all the competitevely priced cards are all reference designs as near as i can tell). also - artic cooling does a silencer for the 7800GT, but couldn't find anything for the 1800XL on their website at the moment
