    Thecus N2050 DAS appliance

The N2050 could be described most simply as a external SATA device which also has a SATA to USB bridge. It's a little more complex than that, however, as it's also a RAID device. So, inside there are two SATA 3Gbps channels, connected to a storage processor, charged with creating a RAID-0 or RAID-1 array from two attached drives. It is this RAID entity that is then presented via the eSATA or USB interface. Clever, eh?

i was wondering since you connect this via USB, would you be able to instead connect the DAS to the LINKSYS NSLU2 and then connect that to your LAN?

Should work fine, but it will be hugely limited in terms of speed due to it using USB.

Has anyone bought one of these? I'm tempted to get one to sling a couple of 500Gb drives in and mirror to use as my backup solution, but would appreciate anyone's real world experiences.

I have one of these, and 2x 400gb Hitachi drives in there.

    I have it setup for 800GB RAID0

    Pros:
    - tiny case, not much larger than the 2 drives...
    - Its handy having 800GB in one volume over USB or eSATA

    cons:
    - the drives get far too hot for my liking with the puny 40mm fan supplied, they'd have been better going for a slightly larger case, and an 80mm fan.
I`ve ended up putting a 60mm fan in there, noiser but cooler.

    - it could do with a handle for carrying
    - external power brick - more to carry/forget.
    - usb cable is A-A, not standard A-B but they do provide it.
    - eSATA is rare at the moment, and it needs an external card (those SATA to eSATA cables don't work with it due to the RAID).

I am very happy with it though!
