Well.. at least the shrouds lifted.. X1950XTX isnt the super power house it was forcasted to be..
VR and HWZ's review is indeed rigged..

Rigged is a harsh word, and I haven't read those reviews so I can'tcomment, but do note that we used very high resolutions and turned up the AA and AF nice and high.

It's about where we'd expect, isn't it? A bit faster than the X1900XTX but not stunningly so. Looking at those resolutions as well, they're very solid scores.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be with the GX2 on those boards?
Yea, perhaps rigged is indeed a painful description.. but its certainly errorneous to a certain degree. Early benchies showed the XTX single card was about 15-20% faster than the GX2 in almost all games they tested, like FEAR, Prey etc.Originally Posted by Steve

metal rulers are much better than plastic ones. they're much sharper too, and they dont break when u hit someone

Well at the risk of sounding like an ATI fan (own nvidia and always have but happy to switch), I don't know why everyone was so surprised at the 7950 GX2 low results - they're only mildly lower than I might expect, if that. Firstly, many people talk like they're 2 7900GTX cores but they're not - they're down clocked. Secondly, they are in SLI which reduced efficiencies massively in many games and Thirdly, they don't necessarily scale well to the types of resolution/AA/AF used. Impressive stuff from ATI and certainly attractive to me to upgrade a can't-hack-it-anymore 6600GT...
I must say, from a personal perspective, it's an appealing upgrade. However, I may as well wait and see how well UT2007 plays on this rig before I go upgrading.

Seem's like a great alternative to the GX2, in single card mode anyway, it can pretty much match it in most test's and without the compatability and heat woes of the nvidia card.
The question now is whether to drop £300 in a new card so soon before DX10 and vista.
i dont mean to sound anti ATI or anything but as was said in the review £299 may be an optimistic price for the new card wouldnt it have been a good idea to look at 2 GX2's to give a complete picture as £320+ (316 was the cheapest i saw on a quick browse) isnt a completely wild difference in price? i'm still quite new to all this so apologies if i've missed something. it just seems that anyone who has enough money to spend some 600 pounds on a couple of cards may not notice that much of a difference in wallet weight... just a thought

The big problem there, at the moment, would be that we tested on i975X, not nForce, so technically no SLI support.

ah, i see. my mistake. maby an idea if future support develops.
Currently the X1950 biggest selling point is the GX2's problems. You can run the GX with hacked drivers, but no-one wants to drop £600-700 on hardware fot not to run perfect.
