    Arrow HEXUS.reviews :: Alienware Area-51 7500 PC

Alienware is launching a new chassis and taking Intel's well-received Core 2 Extreme X6800 CPU as a performance base. If you've got around £3,000 and are after a PC with all the trimmings, Alienware's Area-51 7500 may just be for you. Read on to find out what we thought about it.

Looking at the internal shots, seems alienware have gone backward. A friend of mine had an alienware a few years back and this looks nowhere near as good. Just simple stuff, like the drives look low quality and are black rather than coloured the same as the case.

Don't get much for £3000 eh? If I build a PC for 3 grand it would have that thing crying into it's green side panel

I had someone say to me the other day they would prefer an XPS to an Alienware (with the launch of the new XPS 700)

    HOW MUCH?

/wanders off..mumbling about silly cases and just how many different PC's you could build for £3200.

im really struggling to find what comes close to making this 3 grand.

no sound apart from the onboard rubbish..huh?

    300 for the hard drives

    600 for the cpu

    160 for motherboard

    160 for the ram

    350 for the 7950gx2

80 for the psu (if that)

    92 for xp pro

    50 pence for the case.

    = 1742.50.

and then they charge you £3112 for it, and as an added bonus, they only charge you £55.67 for delivery.

My point exactly clunk, give almost anyone on this forum or any like it £3k and they'll build something that will wipe the floor with that, hell they'd build you 2 and have a nice bit of cash for the trouble. That stuff is ridiculously overpriced.

As mentioned above - I simply cannot believe that they expect people to pay £3000 for a gaming computer using onboard sound - that’s plain silly!

I think the exterior of case is ugly, there appears to be little (if any) innovation in regards to keeping £3000 worth of components cool, meanwhile the inside of the case looked "budget" to say the least!

Has anyone heard of the memory manufacturer before either?

I look forward to reading Alienware’s response to this review!

Edit/ Off topic - David has the XPS 700 actually started to ship yet? I remember hearing that their Quad SLi machines had yet to materialise?

For £3k I'd expect something absolutley fantastic these days. I can buy an exceptional gaming laptop for £1.6k (Dell XPS), so for twice that amount I'd need something a bit more wonderful than stock components, a noisy heat sink and some fancy moulded plastics. In fact for £2,742 (just went for a play) I can get a Dell XPS desktop that will utterly pound this Alienware offering in to the ground.

*shakes head* I think Dell buying Alienware shows what they intend to do to the brand IMHO.

    3 grand. Lets see.

Bribe an ES kentsfield(quad core goodness) from someone. 2gig PC8500 RAM, 2 150gig Raptors, (maybe more), 2 X1950's or 2 GX2's, chocie of mobo, X-fi and all the bobbins.

Stick the CPU on Mach 2, and chipset, RAM, GPU, PWMIC on water. Clock the lot to 4ghz+ and be happy with 3 grand well spent.

I can't understand why anyone would want to buy this. What's the point? You could buy yourself something that would mercilessly wipe the floor with it and include a 30" monitor for that money.

I also can't understand how anyone can review this and say that it has good looks. That's one of the ugliest, cheapest-looking cases I've ever seen. They should just go the whole hog and stick a 4-foot spoiler on the back, "Kevin" and "Tracey" above the drive bays and flourescent lights underneath. Utterly horrible.

it would sell at £2250 wouldn't it? But anything approaching 3 is a tad high! Past it is mad.
