However, we are seeing cards that definitely do support it (and HDMI) trickling through slowly now. Today we have two such cards on test, both from Info-Tek's GeCube brand and both from the ATI Radeon X1000 series.

any chance of seeing apple to apples benchmarks at 720p rather than using 2 different settings?
I can only repeat what i said the last time a graphics card was reviewed that was designed to be in a media player and output to a HDTV :-
Hexus should benchmark at appropriate resolutions ie 1280x720 or (preferably) 1360 x 768.
I do not buy the line that we can assume or approximate performance based on what is tested.

after all they are low profile .. so performance are acceptable..so wats the temperature when under heavy load..... it wud b great if the review inclue heat output as most of this graphic cards will be put in HTPC casing which heat might cause a few problems...Ie : crashing due to overheatin...
hopefuly temperature will be included as an update to this review and the sapphire x1600 hdmi
Why do you say pref 1360 x 768 when that is not one of the offcial hgih definition resolutions?

So if I have a 720p/1080i screen, with this I can use HDMI to watch upscaled DVDs through my HTPC. Right?
Also does this have any form of hardware decoding for HD codecs?
