USBCELL - USB rechargeable AA battery from Moixa Energy

Moixa Energy's latest invention, the USBCELL, is a very cute idea - a flip-top AA battery that recharges directly from a USB socket.

It's a bit on the pricey side at the outset - only being available from a dedicated web site for £12.99 (inc VAT and delivery) for two Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) USBCELLs. But, hopefully, the price will fall if the product takes off and is available retail and elsewhere, as the company is promising.

that is cool! I doubt i'd bother getting any, i already have a 4xAA charger that can run off a USB port (or any 5v source) but i like the idea a lot.

What a great idea. They'll be great for going on holiday with. I wonder if they have some sort of charge indicator on them. Duracell used to have a little lcd type doodad on their 4 pack AA's years ago. So it couldn't cost too much to implement if they don't.
Mind you Funkstar's charger sounds like a good'un too. I don't suppose you've got a link for that mate?

Run down your laptop batteries with some batteries! Woo!

Nice idea, but I fail to see any practical use.

A nice idea, do they have less capacity than a regular rechargable battery however since the top 1/4 is now a USB header?

Or I can just take a battery charger and leave my laptop at home?

Most devices I take out with me have their own proprietly rechargable batteries.. thinking about it, the only device I have left that uses AAs is my Digicam (which is rather bulky in design, and takes 4!), there's nothing else that i'd take out of the house.

Just how many devices do people take abroad with them that use AA batteries? Are these devices worth more that the specialist USB cells that would be used in them? Losing a £6.50 battery whilst on holiday is a bit scary.

Oh, and Panasonic batteries can be had in a 4x pack for ~60p (just go to a car boot sale, they're all over the place), that would be ~84 batteries for the price of 2 rechargable ones.. hmm.

That last picture looks like a nokia phone battery, which I realy can't see the point for, as there are loads of USB chargers avalable for phones, that are just as portable, but let you continue to use the phone.

I think that what the company said to itself, "What would look is if we said we were launching a BIG range", and so included all possible batteries.

Or, perhaps, that's just me being cynical.

Well - if you have it as a spare battery which can be charged without the need for it being in the phone it makes sense to me
