Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro DSLR due early 2007

Fujifilm has revealed details of its next-gen DSLR camera, the FinePix S5 Pro, even though it's not due to arrive until February 2007.

The company ceased production of the FinePix S3 Pro in August - only limited numbers are still available (typical price £980 for a body alone) - so the revelations look to us like a move to limit the number of upgraders and new pro DSLR users who adopt competing brands at Christmas.

Pricing and exact availability have not been given, though the main improvements over the FinePix S3 Pro have been announced.

Find out more about the FinePix S5 Pro in this HEXUS.lifestyle.headline.

Is it just me or is the back of that more than a little busy? Too many buttons for my liking.

The dual sensors at each photosite perform separate functions - one is for general exposure and the other is for highlight. That's why S5 Pro, in effect, is a 12-megapixels camera despite its 6-megapixels rating. Consequently, the dynamic range is vastly improved as a result. The camera is ideal for portrait compositions because of its excellent skin color reproduction. And while it is curiously similar in build and some functionalities to Nikon D200, the mechanisms between the two are not the same. A SuperCCD SR Pro imaging chip, which is regarded to deliver improvements in noise, dynamic range, and skin color over its predecessor - the S3 Pro, is used.
