Easy DivX Streaming through your Xbox 360

One thing that still riles many folk is the Xbox 360’s inability to stream DivX movies.

This isn’t a hardware issue because it is possible, as we’ve seen with Casey Chestnut's DivX Streaming article.

This is hugely complicated though, as getting the right bits of software to talk to each other in the right way takes forever…

But now someone's come up with a far simpler solution... check it out on HEXUS.gaming.

    Has anyone tried this yet?

Also is there an easy way to batch convert VTS/VOBs to DivX?

You can convert the VTS / VOB files using WinAvi, it does loads of different conversions for you to many different formats (VCD,SVCD,AVI,RM and AVI to DVD). It takes around 35 mins to convert around 2 hours worth of media. You can add more than one set of files to it also.

I use Transcode 360 simply because the end result looks just as good as the original file and it is also able to transcode AC3 which is great feature.

I'm with leejhamilton, I've been using Transcode360 for a while and it works a treat. Not only for Divx either, I stream Xvid, Realplayer, Quicktime, the works.

Neither of these work on Vista

Both the installers (MCE Encoder & Transcode 360) require .Net framework, which of course comes already bundled in Vista, but obviously it can't see the version it needs to run the installers.

Even with Win XP SP2 compatibility it's no go. :/

It works fantastically. I will have to look into transcode360 now though.

With WMC Encoder when installed, stick DivX files in My Docs\My Movies then launch MCExtender on 360. Go to My Movies, hit 'info' button when file selected using Remote - select 'more' - select start/stop stream - hit yes - file starts streaming. Click play stream - grab popcorn.

Yeah there is. You need to set up windows media connect on your pc. Once you have done this, select a shared folder that WMC can access.
The 360 can only read WMV files so you will have to convert any files you wan't to watch into the WMV format (a pain I know).
Programs like WinAVI will allow you to do this.
Once your videos are converted, put them into the folder that you selected earlier.
Next up, connect your 360 to the PC and the jobs done. Simply select the media blade on your 360 followed by video, computer.

Thanks for the help. Do you know of a free conversion tool?

Edit: Just saw this: "You can install and try all of our software. During this evaluation period, the software has full functional. except some limitations. Please pay for the registration".

While we're on the subject, is there any way of browsing the web and using msn on the 360?

There is a way of using msn while using the media center function I think but I've never used it. As for browsing the web thats a no go at the moment. I don't know of any free conversion tools but I'm sure you can 'obtain' one
