Looking for a heavy-duty chassis that's got workstation aspirations but looks great?. The Cooler Master iTower 930 could be the one.

Coolermaster S4000 SX-1 - coolermasters much earlier attempt at a server case, full aluminium and a great looker. The reviewed one isn't a bad price at all considering the caddy system.

Hmm, looks interesting, but I'm a bit concerned about the air flow, (lack of) around the HDD's. The PCB for the HDD Caddy system more or less kills all of the potential air flow there

indeed, with the right kit in it I am sure it would do very well, when I say right kit, you need to think of airflow as i did have issues trying to keep the fitted parts cool, but its unlikely you would fit an EE lol.

Would be very good with a low heat chip for sure.....

My initial thought was to put 11hard disks (4 in the caddies, 4 in a 4 in3 coolermaster bay, 3 in a 3in2 lian li one & a dvd writer)

That would solve the airflow problems whilst increasing the amount of storage available

i was looking for a new server chassis but this uses sata an my server is all scsi

Admittedly you don't have to use the removable Caddy, so it would still be an option if you already have a SCSI one?

mine are 80 pin drives (hot swapable ones ) that aren't in the caddy's and or connected to a 68 pin cable via an adapter.

This is an interesting (and well timed ) Review...
I've been looking for a chassis to house a fileserver im building. My collection of Files is growing ever larger, and is not backed up, hence my thinking of an 8x smallish disk array... Hot-Swap however is something i'd really like to have...

My other choices were a supermicro 4U/Tower thingeh, but well, it wasnt Ideal, and was also £300
A Stacker, with 2x '4 in 3' Hot Swap Sata Bay Units from Icydock, but again, around £100 for the case, and £100 each for the units

This looks like an interesting option, with the 4x Built in, and an Icydock or CM (mentioned above) unit... This should improve airflow, the Icydock at least has a 120mm fan behind it, providing just that bit more intake, and of course, it doesnt need to cool a massive CPU/GFX Card, however that many HDDs are going to make it cosy...

Basically; just wanted to share my thoughts, and say thanks for a good review If anyone has any input though, greatly recieved

style not to my liking but all i can say is...

4 USB ports on the front of the case - thank god! - finally!!

(please take note other case manufacturers... i'm looking at you antec...)

coolermaster isn't anything like it was in its prime

they should have kept their premium range and ran these beneath them

have a CM110 (years old now) and snapped up a S4000 for £140 about 2 months ago (brand new!)
