So will this allow Sony to make another 2000 PS3s?
Doubt it as the PS3 uses Sony's own laser and Sony gave precedence to their games console rather than selling them outside the company. What are the odds that the Sharp component is FFF (form, fit and function) compatible and that Sony would be willing to build them into the PS3?
Actually I believe you're wrong. While Sony does produce many them self, they do rely on other companies to supply some diodes to them as well. So with Sharp now producing them, then yes, it should hopefully help Sony get more PS3s out the door.
