Force feedback mouse? In full 3D? No really, it's true!

Perhaps one of the most innovative products we’ve seen at CES 2007 has to be the 3D force feedback ‘mouse’ from Novint Technologies and probably one of the weirdest things about it is that it doesn’t look like a mouse at all…

Does your arm ache after firing off 200 rounds? ... While the force-feedback bit is interesting, it's really just a novelty that'll die without support. And at $200 it's not going to be mainstream.

'3D mouse' products have been on the market for years - aimed at the pro design niche obviously, but you can pick one up for $55 these days.

Sounds really cool. I had an opportunity to try out a 3D mouse with some engineering software and that was pretty cool, its amazing to think about what could happen if developers went all out writing for it. It could be like the wiimote, but for PC.

Wow that thing looks cool. I really think that games need more immsersive input than today's keyboard and mouse for games, we just need someone to come up with something that can replace the mouse without loosing the functionality & speed.

The mouse itself is no different than your everyday mouse. It has 2 buttons + clickable wheel (so 3 buttons total). The buttons are large so users with small and big hands alike will be able to click easily with this mouse. The wheel is exactly the way I like it; your finger won’t slip and there’s some notches so you can easily go cycle through the number of weapon you want (which is the opposite of smooth wheels, with which you never know how many ticks you did). As you can see, the shape is quite standard and everyone will feel comfortable using this mouse. The symmetrical design makes this mouse as easy to use for right handers as it is for left handers. The mouse comes with a 7 foot long cable, which is now quite standard for a mouse.

Just out of interest, are you writing that as an mini critique of an unusual design or did you just not realise that the thread is almost two years old?
