Just phone Vodafone, tis the easiest, if not the cheapest, way to do it
Nokia N series is not self-unlockable IIRC
Primary kit:
Fuji S5 Pro - Nikkor AF 50/1.8 - Nikkor AF 85/1.8
Epson RD-1
Film Kit:
Leica M3 - Summicron 50/2 DR - Zeiss ZM 25/2.8 - M-Rokkor 40/2
Olympus OM2n - Zuiko 50/2 Macro - Zuiko 50/1.4 - Zuiko 35/2.8
Well you can flash the phones firmware - Lots of people have been upgrading to the music edition. So i am pretty sure that you can find an unlocked vertion of the firmware.
dave: do you know if they will actually let me do this? and rough cost?
as i dont want to loose my genie simcard
Is it contract or PAYG? if the latter its probably £20 in airtime
its payg, but if i cant hae it done il go onto a contract and sell the one they give me or sell the n73..
20 quid not bad, you sure they do this? i havnt heard of this process before...+
Yep just give them a ring I know orange for sure unock the newer phones for £20 on payg. AFAIK it is illegal for a phone on payg to be sold as locked, so they have to give you an unlcok code however chargin for it is at their discretion!
I've got a mate who had an n73 - it was real slow beforehand but then he flashed it to the latest firmware and it was rather spritely afterwards! So after you've sorted the unlocking out, it may be worth flashing it to the latest firmware. Just a heads up Sony Ericsson have their own program to do this, but I'm not sure if Nokia are doing such a thing as of yet.
dunno im not keeping the phone, as i will be getting an n95
but they fetch alot more unlocked.thanks for this
This thread on AVforums may be of help - http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=365084. Quite old and long (still going) but i am sure there is some unlocking info in there.
got the phone through and its an unlocked one anyways bargain at 130 quid, its 1 month old
love it
Is there any offers atm similar to the 7600 on 3? its going to need replacing sometime soon but somehow I doubt my chances of finding a unlockable phone for £45 ready to use on PAYG.
