I'm on PAYG since I barely use my phone, but if you spend more than ~£10 a month, I'd say it's a better deal to be on a contract due to free phone upgrades and cheaper prices.

Well, with tescos I've been finding they offer me a £50 voucher every 6 months or so to upgrade. They also give me free texts if I've been using it alot, clubcard points etc, on top of their reasonable tarrifs. I cant complain, although if you were a heavy user I can see the benefit in taking a contract.

I use o2 PAYG and take advantage of the cheap bolt ons and extras they do and it can work out very cheap.

I normally spend about £25 a month ..for which i get around 800 free minutes.. 300 off peak and 500 weekend (which is when i use it)

25% off calls or an extra 300 minutes.

a few free txt but i dont txt that much if i can help it.

You also get 10% back on every top up which you collect every quater.

Works out alright for me as i dont like contracts..Obviously some months you end up paying a bit more but at least im in full control of what im spending on the bloody thing.

The phone is never "free" you pay for it through the contract.

All the networks are as bad, spend feck all with them and you get crap from them.

Am currently O2 contract on the old online 50 £19pm but when i cba i will be switching to payg as i don't use the phone enuff to justifi the money each month, i might as well buy the phone i want, consider i might send 50 txts a month and spend 10 mins on the phone a tenner top up might last me 3 months or more depending on the use.

Am just one person who doesn't use the phone enuff, but then i'd rather speak to the person face to face, guess it's my yorkshire tightwadness showing through

Orange CS has got really really bad.

I upgraded last week they wants £139 for W950i on my first like and £150 for LG SHine on my second line.

the W950i went down to FREE on 12 month contract same tarrif.
And the 2nd line was the same

they said if u move the first line to 18 month cotract they will charge 19.99 for LG SHINE

The only reason i dont want to cancell i got a big relationsship going with there tend to give me free stuff like text during the contract period.

I jumped 4 contracts over to 02 this year for exactly this reason. Orange CS are dire. My mate works for Orange Business so I asked what the likleyhood of me getting what I wanted (Orange Version of the XDA Orbit *with* GPRS on my main contract) and k800i's on the other 3 contracts. He had a look and told me to no and he was right. I have had to argue with them anualy over the other halfs retentions deal each time they manage to tell her one thing and give her another so this year i've gone with 02. They've also just done 12 months free line rental for a work colleague with a load of texts chucked in so i'm looking forward to getting rewarded for my loyalty, best of all they haven't murdered the XDA range in the way orange did with over branding the SPV's.

Its party due to the time of the year too. You will often get better after April, the start of the new financial year.

Retentions budget is averaged monthly for the finances side of things though and based on a customers classification based on spend over the last 6 months, not how the retentions rep feels, yes they will always offer lower than they can however just incase they have an exceptional situation where they need to go slightly over budget on.

It's not just Orange, although I did find that threatening to leave, asking to be put through to their retentions department and then waiting for an offer to stay sometimes got the deal I wanted.

I've been with Cellnet, then O2, then Orange and now T-mobile and frankly, in my experience over the last 10 years or so, there's nothing in this thread that doesn't apply to all of them.

It's madness and doesn't make any business sense that they think there's more value in new customers than retaining existing ones. Hopefully, now that the market is pretty flooded and most people who want a phone have got one, they'll put some of this marketing "we care about existing customers" into more action.

normally people if you threaten to leave as your contracts ending, this helps in getting the phone you want or a better deal, or leave that sinking boat and find another provider, this normally opens new doors, as they normally are begging for you to join there network and offer some good deals.

When I went to cancel my contract, Orange kept claiming they would provide any phone or service I wanted - but the reality for me was the same - asked for a treo650 which was available to new customers, but still whatever the claims not available for existing customers.

I recently saw a promotion on 3 for 500 min for £15. I was already with 3 paying £25 a month for the same 500 mins.

I had completed my contract and I was contemplating on extending the contract to get a new phone.

I wanted to get on to this new low priced tariff.

I thought they will do the Nation wide advert.

But to my surprise with out any quibble they offered it to me.

I am yet to receive the bill to confirm it. I will post an update after receiving the bill

The final straw in my ongoing issues with Orange came last September when my contract was due to expire - I was offered a deal comparable to O2 35 for 12 months with the phone I wanted - an E900. I was quoted £39 for the upgrade, said thanks, and that I'd shop around. The guy in retentions said he could hold the offer for 3 days, which was fine. I phoned back later in the day only to be told the handset was £89, and there was no mention of £39 anywhere on the notes for my call. It wasn't a mis-hearing on my part, since I asked the first guy to repeat the deal several times so I could write it all down. Them lying to me was the final straw.

Maybe a case that the agent you delt with needed to make up his/hers figures so offered you a silly deal that he knew no other agent would touch.

Was one of the main issues i raised when i use to do this as a job, nothing got done about it and i doubt anything ever will get done about it.

Makes me glad am no longer part of it.

ive just switched to orange from o2 as o2 retentions were offering me bugger all to stay with them. No reduction is monthly charges and offered me crap phones for free.

So I switched to Orange with the deal of free PS3 included (not direct with Orange), now im not sure whether I have made the right decision having looked at their contracts in detail.

With o2 I was used to having 1MB WAP/GPRS usage free, free voicemail and 08 numbers I could dial using my inclusive minutes, other than 0871.
Looking at the Orange contract ive gone for there is no 1MB WAP/GPRS free usage (though I think it is only o2 ONLINE which offer this) and dont know whether I will be charged for voicemail and 08 numbers even if I have inclusive minutes remaining as the info on the website isnt very clear.

If any has any info on this it would be great

I hate to say it, but why dont you just phone Orange?

Most peoples contract vary, so its not much use asking here. Orange will be able to tell you in detail and you can compare to O2.
