motorola v3i

Ok so I'm currently 18 and still have the same phone from when I was 14 which is a nokia 3510i and has'nt missed a beat at all but now I'm thinking its time to change and get something more "up market" so I've had a look around and the only phone to take my fancy is the razr V3I and at under £100 (orange) I think its quite a bargin question is, is it worth it is there anything else on the market for the same price that is better I had a look at the LG chocolate but a mate at work has had one for 2months and its already covered in scratchs and what not I'd like a phone to last at least 7~8 months before looking like it was dragged across the floor.
All thoughts/comments appreciated.

I have the LG chocolte, no problems with scratches at al, but i still wouldnt bother with it, the touch screen style buttons are reeeeaally bad, as half of the tie it doesnt recognise that youve touched the area and it also is difficult to make sure you get the right one!

One thing that i have learnt from my 4 different mobiles that ive had, stick to nokia!

N95 looks great if not expensive

the v3i is terrible, it was outdated when it came out. the v3x is a little better, but not by much.

Any reason you cant get a contract?

The 6230i is a excellent phone... the 6233 has a bigger screen and is newer..
my 6230i has been flung across concrete, dropped, thrown got soaked and it has never missed a beat.. battery life isnt what it used to be, but its still amazing compared to the N95 i just got

I don't know tbh I'll drop into the carphone warehouse tommorow and have a look at what they've got there+kick up a fuss and get a lower price, I honestly dont want to be on contract as I dopnt really use my current phone that much tbh about 7~9 calls a month and about 20~25 txts a month aswell so I would'nt call myself an extreme user, I'm basically after something that has a camera built in for those one off shots and a mp3 player that can store a few songs for when I'm bored on the bus or somewhere and the v3i ticks those boxes it might be out of date but I am currently using a 3510i and have been for the past 4 or more years so anything I get is going to feel a hellva lot better.

i have a v3i after stepping up from a nokia brick, i like it, does all you need & grabs low res movies, see if you can wangle a free genuine case for it, the one that fits over the flip, not just the holster thing. they cost up to £20 and mines never fell out, bounced it a few times in it and its not split yet.

just remember to charge it every night, they dont last all week like the old nokias do.

Right just a little update went and picked one of them up the other day and got the red version, so far its all good my only gripes are that they dont include a mini-usb to 3.5mm (50p) and the 64mb card they include is to small so order a 512mb one as the phone doesnt work with a gig yet and the carphone warehouse wanted £30 for a 512mb card sod that, next up is the software they include to get stuff on and off the phone its pants much easier to dive into the phone form my computer and wmp11 can drag and drop the music, and the last thing is the menu its a tad slow especialy creating txts although I'm fast so learnong to be a wee slower but overall £99 well spent imho.

those 50p 3.5mm jacks can be a problem as they dont have the mini amp built in like the motorola ones do.
they are harder to text with, i did notice after my nokia brick and the breakneck speed i could tap away with on that.

check the motorola website to see if the firmware can be updated, that sped mine up a lot, but i installed a generic V3i firmware off a fan site as mine was a o2 phone and i was on orange.

What kind of memory does it use, because 30 quid for 512MB sounds a hell of a lot, if its SD then my company sells it for £9 a time and 1Gb for £13, and if its mini SD then the same prices apply, only micro is slightly more expensive.

Tis micro sd, the carphone warehouse wanted £30 for 512mb told them sod it and got the same from amazon for £8 inc del, although I would have liked it if the phone supported 1gb.

it may well do - i have the V3x and used a cheap 1gb micro SD in that fine.
