    Question Contract->PAYG->contract keeping number?

    I'm just wondering where I stand on keeping my number if I change to PAYG for a few months. I could really do with living cheap for a brief period, then I'm going to start earning real money so I can splash out on a phone/contract.

    Currently I'm on T-mobile, so could I change to a different network on PAYG and take the number?

    Then if I change back to T-mobile or go to someone else could I take the number with me again? I don't really want to get stuck on T-mobile PAYG and be force to 'upgrade' rather than get a new contract as the deals are never as good.

    I know contract to contract on different providers is easy, is this going to be a step to far?

    Orange gave me no trouble when I wanted to do that about a year ago. I was on a pay monthly contract, and I got a new job with a company mobile phone, so I asked orange to switch me to pay monthly. (So I could keep my number as a spare). Anyway, I phoned up and asked them, they wanted a month notice (as I was effectively cancelling my contract), but appart from that there was no difficulty. I had been with Orange for about 18 months at that point.

    If you want to switch to a different PAYG provider register with them and tell them what you want to do. They will make you buy a PAYG sim of them and ask you to inform your current provider that you wish to migrate the number. The current provider will give you a release code which you give to the new PAYG provider and then it tales about 5 working days to swap your number over to the new provider.

    This migration code is referred to as a pac code. It can sometimes be hard to obtain due to companies refusing to alow you to migrate company.

    so long as you're at the end of your contract there is no reason why they wouldnt give you your pac code.

    by the way most companies i.e. O2 will give you a free sim card if you tell them you would like to port to them. PM me with your address and I'll send you one.

    Cheers
