Convert from pay-monthly to PAYG on Orange?

I've got a very desirable mobile number for one of my personal phones. However, I don't use it very much as i've got a fully-expensed work phone. I'm paying £20 per month for the Orange contract. Is there a way to move from pay-monthly to PAYG _and_ retain this number?

I phoned Orange CS and they said no. However, i'm not sure that this is true.

Should be. Are you out of the minimum contract period? If not you would probably have to buy out of that first.

Orange shops? might get better CS from them from what i've heard.

No they can't do it. Its the same on all networks, when I worked for T Mobile used to get called a lot about it. They can do PAYG to monthly but it isn't cost effective to do it the other way hence the no.

They will do it occasionally but it is usually a minority and very lucky few. Most cases it is a flat out no, and you get told to go and buy a PAYG sim

Umm, I've done it with my old Orange contract phone. Just ring them up until you get a CSR that knows more than to read from a script (i.e. one who is in the UK, not India).

    Cheers,

The other option would be to ask other networks and see if they would port you number to PAYG. If any of them say yes then you can just request your PAC code from Orange and wave goodbye.

But if your contracts expired then there's no reason they shouldn't downgrade you to PAYG. Tell them you plan to go back to contract in a few months and they'll have lost a customer if they don't.

I just called Orange to cancel my contract as it ends in 30days and asked about this. They said they will send me a payg sim and all I needed to do was call to activate the sim on my last contract day and they would then port the number over to the new payg sim.

If its a good number involved that you dont want to lose, you want to be very sure that they will port it over.

u can , i just changed from my 30 £ 200xnet any time minute contract to payg on the 12th month of my contract,

theyll send u a payg sim with no tel. number on it , u call up orange, and theyll restrict your contract number and it will say limited service and then your other sim will instantly get reception and take ur contact number over

other then that, they probaly tryin to get u stay as contract as u are clasify as a low value customer , they treat ppl with £30+ contracts with more priorty as i found out

Otherwise, can't you jut migrate your number to another network on PAYG and take it with you?
