Anyone got a Slingbox/Slingplayer Mobile working on T-Mobile?

    Hi Folks,

Mentioned wanting to do this in another thread but not a lot of resopnse so thought I'd address it directly!

Has anyone got a T-Mobile data tariff and a Slingbox with Slingplayer Mobile running on their phone?

Just wondering whether it was feasible or whether T-Mobile blocked it in any way? I know that 3 have a Slingbox offering on their X-Series but if the generic bandwidth from T-Mobile can be used for this, then that's the way I'll likely go.

    Cheers for any info!

there have been many threads on this on the slingplayer website forums(think it's slingmedia.com). It is currently only working on the X series phones on 3 as you said. Think they are working on a way to do it.

you can use mycast orb to view pics/videos from your pc to your mobile and listen to music for now.
other than that, just keep an eye on the slingmedia forums. It's prob just a case of making compatible software for your phone but not sure if I heard 3 may have an exclusive license for a while(may be wrong on this part though).
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

    Thanks Starbuck,

Are you sure it doesn't work though? The initial concerns about availability for use in the UK spanned from the fact you just couldn't buy/register the Slingplayer Mobile software..you needed to register it and Sling Media weren't selling it except in the US. The only legit copies in the UK were for Symbian phones via 3....

The only way to get the Windows Mobile version was to register with a US address, or get a hack. But I didn't think there was any 'technical' reason it wouldn't work, once you got an active copy - unless your phone provider somehow detects the streaming content and blocks it thinking its voip or something?

Sling have now started selling the mobile software in the UK for Windows Mobile devices (back in April I think) so in principle anyone can now get it.

Ridiculously, the Symbian version is not available for sale in the UK because they've still got an exclusivity deal with three...rather unlucky for Nokia owners.

But PDA phone and windows smartphone folks should be fine....I think?

Am I completely wrong here or can anyone clarify the position?

Shouldn't see any reason why it shouldn't work on t-mobile, as you said, it's just a case that 3 have an exclusive license. Only prob is, I don't think compatible software exists yet for non windows based smartphones.

Don't think t-mobile will be in any rush to do it anyway as they have just launched mobile TV.
