Nokia battery - length of initial charge?

Please help settle a heated debate

That "car mobile" shop states that the initial charge should be 9 hours, the Nokia helpline say similiar but the phone manual (6080) says the battery takes 1 hour and 10 mins to charge from flat. It doesn't mention if this is the 1st charge or though!

Battery = Nokia BL-5B Li-ion

i normally put mine on at 6 pm and pick it up in the morning, do the maths lol

manuals never take account of fist charge, ive always been told of 16 hours and have regretted listening to the manual in the past

the reason the first charge is so long is because it ensures all cells in the battery are activated, once activated you can half charge or full charge but it is recommended that you go through about 3 or 4 full charge, discharge cycles

Thanks but surely when the phone states "battery full" it stops trying to charge the cell? This happens between 1 and 2 hours on the first charge.

I usually do an initial charge of 16 hours and then when recharging do it until it says fully charged really

If on the first charge it says full just leave it plugged in

it stops but its phyiscally still taking up energy to get every cell active
