    Nokia N95 8GB Black

Anyone heard about this new N95 8GB Black version that's coming or may not be coming out this Christmas.

It's meant to be bigger, better battery life, smarter, hopefully the new Firmware will be installed for the GPS, it does look a hell of a lot better in Black anyway.

But christ i bet it's not going to be any cheaper then £500 on sim free.

i dont think any phone is worth 500pounds, wait a bit and you should see it drop like a rock. especially after people realise that its not much different to its predecessor

Actualy that's not entirely true, with the software and battery sorted, it's going to be a whole lot better then it's predecessor.

There is already an updated firmware for the N95 that makes the GPS run as it should.

Oh!!, i didn't know about that, hopefully that will be sorted in the new one.
How can the slider rattle that much on a mobile without it being recalled as a fault
surely, that's a design fault and should be fixed under warrenty?

    Re: Nokia N95 8GB Black

For anyone who's had doubts about getting an N95 due to the complaints about battery life, rattling sliders, bad firmware, etc. - I've had mine a couple of weeks now on 3. No problems at all. And I can't even try to save some battery life but switching it to GSM instead of 3G.

Battery life isn't huge, sure, but I put mine through a few complete charge/discharge cycles and it's lifespan seems to be getting longer each day.

It feels too plastic IMO, and too light, the best Nokia fone ever is the E60 =)) you could kill someone with that

    Re: Nokia N95 8GB Black

sorry to change the subject a bit or if i am in the wrong forum here ( this is my very first post !!!) but can anyone tell me whats up with my N95. I just bought it second hand, got it unlocked at a shop, then updated the software via the net then took my first call and found the caller can hear me but i cant hear them unless i press the loudspeaker button .My mate who sold me it said it was ok when he last used it and i know that was true as i did ring him to talk about buying it.The phone was new in march this year. If it needs a repair where do i go ? i never had a phone break before and i have always had the latest Nokia. Perhaps there is a mute button pressed on somewhere in the settings ??

    Re: Nokia N95 8GB Black

For those that didn't know, the N95 8GB is now on Nokia's site, and many phone news sites.

Slightly bigger screen, reworked case to allow a different battery, N-Gage gaming, 8GB internal memory, it's black... erm... and plenty of other things too no doubt.

Seems like a decent refresh, and some of the niggles have been fixed, but there's no card slot seemingly, so if you fill your 8GB you're kinda snookered. I've had the N95 for a few months and have already got 6GB spread over various cards, can't say I like the 8GB limit on the new version. Nor do I like it much in black, just looks a bit bland. But I guess black is the new, um, black ?

Be careful doing that. 3 pay roaming charges to Orange if you are using 2G instead of 3G. If they think you aren't using their network where possible, they may want to have a quiet word.

    Cheers,

    Re: Nokia N95 8GB Black

Like I said, I can't do that - the option isn't there for me. I've read it as a tip on many other sites and I guess it makes some sense but I haven't the option.

I presume 3 have disabled it then. Can't say I've seen any other signs of customisation.

And anyway, do 3 have the right to tell me not to do it - I can't say I've seen anything in their T&Cs but it could be there. If I had the option I'd probably switch it to GSM but as it is I use the web a lot and the battery life isn't awful so I'm happy to live without it.

    Interesting point though

Sorry, I misread that as you saying you did do it, which I wouldn't have recommended!

3 will have disabled that option, for that reason!

    Re: Nokia N95 8GB Black

I have an N95 and suffered the battery problems from the outset until I found that turning down the TX power level from 100mw to 10mw in the advanced settings for the Wireless LAN solved the issue completely. Now I can phone, photograph, surf and play and the battery will do well for 3 days. Its unfortunate that the firmware was set to chew up battery life with such an unnecessarily high setting.

Curiously, is there an 8gb card available as yet? The most I have seen is 4gb.

Don't think they've hit the shops yet (see person arriving below me, anyime now, with a link to prove me wrong ) but they're definitely in production. They'll no doubt be a fair bit more than 2x 4GB ones.

*edit* Actually, have a look at www.mymemory.co.uk and do a search (it doesn't give a link to search results, sorry!) and you'll see that 6gb and 8gb are due in shortly. The 6gb is a decent buy at £36.99 but as expected the 8gb is more painful at £69.99. Seems like 6gb is the price sweetspot at the mo, as 4gb is still £27.99.

I've got a few 2gb ones from Costco, so I think I'll hang off 'til the 8gb ones come down in price a little.

One other thing, the early N95's need an update to read the SDHC cards, so it's worth double checking your phone is OK while you wait for release !

Should be a good phone. Not really bothered about the short 95 batter life with mine, I charge all my phones everyday.

Picked up another N95 for £110incl del
