Not long until the iPhone is released over here, but you could get it sooner if you like.
Complete iPhone unlocking has been achieved, and verified by Engadget.
First up though, we have a harware unlock. I don't fancy the look of this one:

There is mension made of this bing possible becuase of a sofware update in 1.0.1. I have a feeling that all they have done is force the current US phones to enable the European network menus and options. I believe there is a legal/regulatory requirement for EU phones to be unlockable. Apple are also using multiple carriers over this side of the atlantic, so would need an easy method of being able to sell these things over the counter in apple stores.
