    Connecting P910i to PC?

Having Googled this one, this is a major problem with the P910, I'm currently working through it, although if anyone knows a quick fix, you'll be my friend for life.

Basically, I've installed the PC Suite, and the drivers for the docking station. Although it states that there is a connection when I put the phone onto the cradle, it won't connect. Bit of a pain in the behind at the moment.

From experience, I would suggest uninstalling the PC Suite software and the sync station software and then disconnect the USB cable.

Grab the latest drivers and software from Sony Ericsson's website, install the sync station software, install the PC suite software and then reconnect the USB connection.

I tried all that to no avail, having disabled all the firewall/antivirus stuff I could, I still go nowhere. After uninstalling McAfee, I had no problems at all with it. Cross-loaded contact details and a couple of programs - reinstalled McAfee, and now it showing as not connected after clicking the "My P910" icon, but there is a connection showing under the "Link Properties" for it.

Still, I've done what I aimed to, and have a bit more infor on my side before I speak to SE on Monday.

The P910 uses a piece of third-party software called "mRouter" to connect. mRouter creates a serial link over IP between the phone and the PC. Maybe your firewall/McAfee is blocking it?

I'm sure SE will be able to shed more light on the matter...

I hope so, I've already put granted full access to mrouter and numerous other files on McAfee, but like I said, I had to uninstall the lot for it to work. Bit of a pain, but I'll live through it.

Just called Sony, all they said was read section blah blah in the readme regarding firewalls etc. "I've already done all of that" says me - "That's all the assistanct Sony Ericsson can provide, there can be problems syncronising when using antivirus software."

    Cheers, that really helped.

Back to the drawing board then. I'm thinking installing a second OS onto my desktop, and going from that without the antivirus, although would I be able to have Outlook etc. using the same files in both the operating systems?

As ever, any input woujld be greatly appreciated.

Seems the dual OS is the way to go, installed the relevant bits and pieces, then copied across the outlook.pst from my primary OS to the secondary OS. Disabled my LAN to remove any internet related problems, and as I hoped, there were no problems linking up, and this way I won't have to remove my antivirus every time I want to update my phone.

Still, it would have been nice not to have needed to have done all this.

I had exactly the same problem setting up my p900 work mobile the other day at home..Spent ages farting about with it thinking it should be working after installing CD one and getting the icons in the taskbar etc...Downloaded the latest suit software from the support site, unziped it to folder on c drive. Then if you look under device manager with your dock plugged in you may well see unknown base device, double click into it > re-install driver > Select location manually > then navigate manually to the folder you just created and tell it to look in it the driver, once installed started working instantly..Worked for me anyhow

Cheers, but its definately a McAfee problem, I'm not too fussed now though, as I've worked around it with a dual boot config on the computer.

    Re: Connecting P910i to PC?

    try this
step 1. uninstall these 3 items, dss sync station, pc suite and update service
unplug usb of syncstn and mobile when prompted
google sony pc suite and download and install
google sony ericsson p910i update service
click usb drivers for syncstation dss
click download syncstation dss drivers zip.
    click extract all files
place them in a known folder using browse

plug in syncstn and mobile together
this should start the found new hardware wizard
lead it to where you just placed the extracted files, using browse again
    name your phone when prompted.
click on my p910i on the desktop, it should be there now.
    if not try the following
step 2. start>all programs>sony ericsson>dial up networking wizard>OK (mobile lights up)>press accept on mobile when prompted twice
step 3. you should see your mobile name in select phone. now on desktop open my p910i, you should find the mobile there.
if you lose the mobile from my p910i, repeat step 2. in select phone >settings select mobile name>remove mobile. then repeat step.2
    if none of this works
    step4. start>control panel>bluetooth devices>add>click on p910i>use passkey 0000 on pc and mobile>and repeat from step 1.
if you havenot got bluetooth devices in control panel, you must download service pack 2 from windows update. you also need to have your mobile set to allow bluetooth connection, and your pc as well . apologies for some of this being basic, but this problem has wasted hours of my time in the past and we have all got sony to thank for their useless unfriendly software and writers
step 5. get a blackberry or something without a sony logo

    Re: Connecting P910i to PC?

the solution is very easy.. its your firewall thats blocking it.
I had the same problem. im using ZoneAlarm firewall. i went to its program control and it showed a program mrouter. i enabled it to access the net and allowed it all rights. and another progrma was there with a p910i logo. i allowed it access to and reconnected my sync manager and as soon as i did, zone alarm asked for confirmation to allow rights to three programs.. i did and it started working !

    Geez!

the original thread was started in 2005! P910 is pretty ancient now.

First Ducko needlessly bumps it, then delerium.

    no. need.

    Re: Connecting P910i to PC?

i agree it is ancient , my point is that sony should refine their software before selling the product at what are very high prices by comparison to other brands
