Most powerful mobile phone / smartphone

so, i have had my axim X51v PDA for some time, and although it is great, i am looking to replace it with something that has an inbuilt phone. so, specs wise, what is the most powerful mobile phone on the UK market now/soon?

    thanks in advance!

Re: Most powerful mobile phone / smartphone

The killer at the moment seems to be the HTC TyTn II. Also knows as the Kaiser (original code name), Vario III (on t-mobile), or the P4550 on other networks. O2 will probably call it the XDA something-or-other if they pick it up.

    <shrug> no idea then

All the smartphones i've seen concetrate more on features and battery life rather than raw performance.

Its not always mhz that counts. Look at AMD processors for an example.

Yeh cpu is not about size of mhz... what you can do with it is what matters... saying that I'm going to get a htc touch

Your talking about a phone here not a PC, what do you plan on doing with it to need something over 500Mhz? God my first PC only had a 233Mhz CPU.

What would be more useful than just 'most powerful' would be what features matter? Do you really want a vga screen? Keyboard/touch-screen/wifi/bluetooth/gps/etc.

Re: Most powerful mobile phone / smartphone

the 400mhz is to reduce power consumption and if you want an overall pda phone then the xda orbit is quite a good one. so far i have not got bored with it and it doesnt seem too slow too

Think you should do some reading about the Qualcomm CPU before slagging it off! It may be puny if it was an Intel XScale clock speed (and even that's up for debate as my 312Mhz XScale runs quite nicely thanks!) but its not.

Its a different chip with different supporting hardware and (obviously) it will be optimised differently to the old XScale you're used to. Just that they are both 'ARM' cpus.

The Qualcomm offers HSDPA\HSUPA, GPS, Wireless G, etc - which the XScale does not. I believe its also significantly better at handling graphics thanks to some hefty optimisation.

I'd suggest finding out about the Qualcomm as its day-to-day use should give a 524Mhz XScale a run for its money, as well as lasting longer between charges!

i guess so, do you know where i can find any comparative benchmark results?

well, i do alot of emulation, and even my current axim has trouble running PS1 emulators, there is also a flight simulator and occasionally blender. also just viewing quite a few non optimised mobile pages can take quite some time even with a fast processor

all of those would be nice, but it doesn't have a satellite death ray controller!

hmm, i suppose you have a point, do you know where i could find any benchmarking comparison figures.

and, i doubt it is any more optimised than a PDA with a dedicated 3D graphics accelerator... but i have learnt that not much actually makes use of that, which is why i am willing to loose it for other features, like GPS.

and, sorry if i sound like i am trolling, it is entirely unintentional if it does, its more disbelief in progress or lack there of in the power of mobile devices.

    thanks in advance!

Re: Most powerful mobile phone / smartphone

If that's emulators as in computer console emulators, then you might want to remove references, as they're of dubious legality, and the mods don't like them being talked about...

Re: Most powerful mobile phone / smartphone

emulators are legal, most roms are not, although some have been released into public domain, which is of course the only roms i use

and please, lets not turn this into an emulator debate.... we are off topic enough now as it is
