    One to beat the kaiser?

Well, I've come to the sensible decision that the kaiser is a bit expensive for me, and besides - there's nothing wrong with my xda mini s / htc wizard.

So looking a bit in the future, and seen this gorgeous offering from samsung:

    http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/mobilep...137400p,00.htm

Not sure on the OS but possibly a cut down linux-based system

Although it does lose GPS, I've decided when the time comes I'm going to invest in something like tom-tom rider, as for a motorbike a mount for a phone isn't going to work brilliantly.

Or any other suggestions of sensible phones, feel free.

That looks nicer than the kaiser but it lacks WiFi but it does have a 5MP camera! I really dislike the buttons underneath the kaiser, thats what I dislike about its looks.

I can't imagine the 5mp camera will be any better than a 3mp in a phone like this.

Re: One to beat the kaiser?

Yea, looking at it, the price tag looks like it's another for the 'no sale' pile.

So I might be staying with my wizard for a while longer, unless I can pick up a decent priced TyTN off ebay.

Here you go, looks like ETEN may about to pull one out of the hat....probably a bit chunkier than the Kaiser though if the previous generation was anything to go by? But VGA and otherwise pretty slick bit of kit. The only real Kaiser competitor I think...is MS Mobiles is anything to go by they're trying to undercut Tytn II pricing too....

    http://msmobiles.com/news.php/6768.html

Unlikely to be carried by any networks here but sure you'll be able to find a bundle online somewhere?!

If its actually any good, I'll be bitter as hell

Re: One to beat the kaiser?

I have to say that samsung does look pretty nice, assuming there's some non touch screen method to get into the calling quickly and easily, i know probably about 60/70% of the time i use my tytn closed with only the buttons down the bottom (i have fat fingers). The lack of wifi isn't a big deal, as i pay for a data package anyway, and 3G is fast enough for the majority of things, and lets face it, if you cant get a 3g signal you can't get wifi either. That said, from my point of view GPS is a bit of a killer app for me, (use it on the bike (push)) as well as in the car, and having it integrated (assuming the chipset is half decent) rather than a seperate reciever (and associated seperate charger etc) would be awesome.

    Sorry, bit off topic but....
Have you got a good clip/mount for it? Looked for one ages ago form my C600 because I thought it would be handy but push bike mounts seem hard to come by?

Mind you with the battery life on the Tytn II its probably not worth bothering! I'd be better with my bluetooth Sirfstar III GPS I guess...

No, i generally know where i'm going, so it gets stuffed in the bottom of the camelbak and used to generate tracklogs afterward. Of i'm going somewhere i dont know i'd rather have a map & compass any day of the week.

Hehe, sadly that's still so true. As slick as memory map is with OS maps, there are some things that just need a lot more space than a 2.8 inch screen )

Now cue a roll-up sheet display ( http://fanboyreview.blogspot.com/200...p-display.html ) about A4 size that can receive radio signals from a phone, to be used as a remote monitor and things might change I'm thinking a moving map that size that displays your location might be quite cool

*sigh*. Probably get one about 2039 .....so I can push my walking frame round the garden and remember the way back to the house. Mind you, on the plus side I could put it in the glove box of my flying car.

Probably about time to get back on topic

Re: One to beat the kaiser?

I just bought a kaiser as I needed to use it as a modem! Got it on contract with t mobile, now just need to cancel my o2 contract.

It's pretty slick, but also very usable - the problem with my o2 xda mini s (htc wizard / mda vario) was that it had been developed with lots of features, but none of them were done very well so you needed loads of third party apps (which ate up the already stretched memory) and in the end it just wasn't worth it.

The lady in the shop gave me money off too after talking to her for an eternity!
