    Free Maps For Mobile

Right this may seem a stupid question so let me just say...

Basically I wondered if there was a way to upload maps onto a mobile phone and have it fixed in memory. So you can call them up at anytime you wish and search away.

As a result you would require no GPRS etc... connection to use these maps and GPS is not important.

Basically imagine AutoRoute on your mobile

Like I said there is probably a really simple answer to this...

    Thanks

Have a look to see what Googles Mobile Maps can do. But to be honest i don't think there is anything like that out there. Could be wrong though...

Yeah I had a look at Google Maps - I got a bit confused reading different things, but ultimatly it sounded like you would require a connection to access the maps

Will read into it a bit more me thinks.

Nokia Maps, or Smart2Go is a free map program for some Nokia and Windows Mobile 5 smartphones. I have the entire UK map on my N80

Maps are free to download and you can disable network usage.

It does work, you can download google maps from your PC and load them onto your phone, then use the mobile gmaps offline.
    http://www.mgmaps.com/

You will also need gmapmaker http://forum.mgmaps.com/viewtopic.php?t=1116

Just follow those instructions and it's quite straightforward, although a little long-winded.
On my phone (k800) you need to execute the "signed" .jad file, then give it permission to read user data. Or it will constantly bug you to allow it to read the map files.

Although i don't think it's possible to generate driving directions offline, i'm not sure though as i only really played with it a bit.
