    LG Viewty

i am due for an upgrade right now and for the past 3 years i have had Nokias and Sony Ericsson but this time i'd like to try something diferrent. ive seen the LG KU990 "Viewty" and was amazed and impressed with the specs and features of the thing. the only downside i can see (comparing with a Nokia and a SE) is the talktime but 200 minustes ain't that bad isn't it?

    my questions are:

    1. what's your take on LG mobile phones in general?

    2. what's your opinion/advice on getting a touch-screen, 3G, 5-megapixel camera phone such as the Viewty? has anyone tried it? how is it? (eg. taking pictires, writing a text message, compatibilty, etc.?)

and is exclusive on voda at the mo...

I checked the G800 out when I got my viewty... "shoddy" springs to mind, looks like they seriously rushed the development to get it out in time for christmas - not sure if the f700 fares any better or not..

Mrs got a viewty recently, you might have a read of the 73 post thread with the same title further down the page ;-)

In summary its a great phone with a good camera and a novel (and very useable) interface. It isnt a PDA by any stretch.

    Re: LG Viewty

The viewty is pretty darned nice to use, the interface isn't a patch on the iPhone/iPod Touch, but then it's better in many other areas - mainly price as it's free on most pay monthly tarriffs

but does it have a stylus park in it? how about the camera? does it have a cover or can you close it?(like that of a Nokia or SE). and is the body sturdy and firm?(can it withstand the odd fall?)

The stylus hangs on a bit of string, but you really don't need it unless you're desperate to use the handwriting recognition. The camera doesn't have a cover, and it has taken the odd knock, but I imgaine it wouldl scratch pretty easily. Its certainly not a nokia on that front

    Re: LG Viewty

Its a lovely phone, but it basically stops there.
Dont expect much more than a "fairly good camera" and a "pretty cool user interface". I was personally a bit disapointed as it didnt come close to an iPhone(which i thought was a gimicky peice of crap) . I've now bought an iPod Touch at £269... I was probably better off buying the iPhone to be honest and just having one bit of kit.

Anyway- If you just want a nice phone that is a bit "designer", go ahead and get it! It isn't total crap or anything. If you want something like a PDA then look somewhere else.

The viewty has it's own hacking crew assembled now, so hopefully once they've had some time to play we should be able to see what it can really do once they get their teeth into it

    Re: LG Viewty

I really like the viewty, the phone is responsive and i love the touch screen, everything is fairly simple to use and get to in the menu's although the menu's aren't quite as intuitive as the samsung phones i've had previously. I haven't had chance to fully test the camera which is the main reason i got it but i have high hopes for it as i don't have a compact camera! The one negative i can find is that the inbuilt mp3 player doesn't feature gapless playback, but that isn't important to me as i recently won an ipod nano so i don't need it as an mp3 player! Other than that i love the phone and would recommend it to anyone looking for a new phone.

    Re: LG Viewty

Another thing, the viewty is supplied with a program to convert videos to divx, i did this to dave gorman's googlewhacking and it works really well. The video playback is seamless and fits the screen perfectly. Also the audio and video are synchronized which i have had problems with before on other devices.

I had one and quickly returned it, nice looking interface but it's completely unintuitive and inconsistent.

    Nice. Link?

I tried using the software but it asks me to buy Divx premium... Balls to that! I haven't got video to work on it so i kinda gave up.

I'm planning on moving from my K800i to a K850i, how does the LG fare in comparison.

    Update date is looming fast.
