    Help with Insurance Claim Please

    Hello all,

Not entirely as clear cut as the title says though. Basically, on my last upgrade a month or two ago, I got a Nokia 7373 for my wife, as I already have an N95. However, in the week before Christmas, she's taken it out of her handbag, and the screen is cracked. I'm stil paying for the insurance that Vodafone provide - as I havent got round to cancelling it, but I'm not sure how to proceed...

    1) Do I say that the phone is my wifes and explain the scenario as above? As I dont know if cover usually just covers ME personally.

    2) Or do I just say that I have done the above - basically saying the phone (Which is a pink 7373) is mine?

All i know is that I have been paying for the insurance and it seems reasonable to get the phone replaced for damage, just that it wasnt in my care personally when it happened. It not that i want to 'bend the truth a liitle' but i dont want to get done over on a technicality...

Any thoguhts would be great - as my wife is nagging me to phone up the insurance...

    JP

Re: Help with Insurance Claim Please

IANAL, but I think, as far as Vodafone are concerned, the phone is yours. You received it as part of your contract renewal deal, and you decided to let your wife use it. This shouldn't invalidate your claim. Looking at the terms and conditions for Vodafone pay monthly insurance, under the definitions it states "2. Customer shall mean the customer of Vodafone Ltd and any person authorised by that Customer to use the Equipment." UK - About Vodafone UK - Legal Information - Terms and conditions - Vodafone Cover Me pay monthly insurance

So, if you want to avoid any slight bending of the truth it shouldn't be any problem.

Say is yours and get your money. Why should you care what they think it will probably be the only time you ever speak to that person.

Re: Help with Insurance Claim Please

Its not the fact that I care about what the other person on the line thinks (although i am polite!) but the fact that if I lead with "Its mine - give me a new phone Ha!" then some jobsworth might drag out something that says that the insurance only covers the phone when its in the possesion of the policy holder (ie. Me)...

And I dont want to give someone that satisfaction. But thestjohn seems to have given some good links there. Shall give them a call this week then.

EDIT: After reading the T&Cs page they dont cover you for damage by:
    - War
    - Radiation
    - Nuclear Waste
    - Sonic Booms
    - Terrorism

    Phew then...

Re: Help with Insurance Claim Please

I work for Voda so can shed some light on this one!

Take it into a vodafone store with your sim in it. Simply explain it has been accidentally damaged and needs repairing. Voda staff will call the insurance company and get a claim reference number for you then send it off for repair under the insurance.

The insurance will speak to you asking how it happened, simply just explain in your pocket and took it out and the screen was damaged, don't know how it happened.

Phone will then get sent off for repair and about a week later will return to store ready for you to pick it up. £25 excess will be added to your next bill, problem solved!

Re: Help with Insurance Claim Please

No joke, but thats the whole point I started this thread - if I walk in and say its mine then show them the phone - they are going to be a bit suspicious though and probably think that I am lying, hence wanting to know if I can be truthful. Anyway, cant go today, have footy, so tomorrow it is...

Re: Help with Insurance Claim Please

Hi i am in a similar situation. my wife dropped and cracked the screen of her N95 phone and the ironic thing is that i just opened up a natwest gold account which includes a mobile phone insurance. does anybody know how to claim from this?

is there a limit to the amount of times you can claim for it?
