    Duttys DualTouch v4 RTM Release

Dutty has just released v4 of his cooked ROM for the kaiser (yes it goes by many names, so lets just call it a Kaiser shall we? especially as this removes any network comstomisation)

    It's on xda-developers - Xda-developers if you want it.

Looks very cool. There isn't a warning about TouchFlow not working with the screen calibration applet, so it may wellrun without having to do anything special with a config file.

Apparently the latest builds of the HTC apps have been pulled from a HTC Polaris. I think it also includes the latest camera app with improved graphics handling and GPS tagging by the sounds of things.

I'll be flashing to this ROM (or perhaps anewer one) when I get home sometime next week.

The Kaiser just gets cooler and cooler. All we need now is proper drivers for the graphics hardware in the Qualcom processor.

Think I will give this a bash at the weekend, just looked and have loads of stuff installed so it needs a clean out. After using my universal the Kaiser has a huge amount of system storage space.

Re: Duttys DualTouch v4 RTM Release

I would be very wary of posting that link here considering the hexus policy on warez - the posting of cooked ROMs for Windows Mobile is VERY grey at the moment, as its still copyrighted software even if you can't go out and buy it from the shops

Its a shame that HTC don't release the ROM updates legitimately for most users ;/ They do post some i your device is directly from HTC (ie not a network version) but otherwise they won't let you register your device on the site

Re: Duttys DualTouch v4 RTM Release

OK, direct link to the thread removed.

This is a very odd situation though. As you have to own a piece of hardware for this to actually work any way. And you have to have a license for WM6 too, or the device wouldn't work.

Also, with threads that regularly get 3,000+ replies, XDA-Devs is one of the largest forums i've come across, so if Microsoft or HTC have a problem with what the guys there are doing, it would be long gone.

Oh, and these cooked ROMS sell hardware. I don't think the kaiser or the other HTC devices would be nearly as popular with folks like us if they were just regular phones.

Re: Duttys DualTouch v4 RTM Release

Yeah I know what your saying and I agree that its silly - but just didnt want you caught out by the rules

XDA-dev have had to remove the roms before, but started posted them again (can't remember why). So microsoft probably doesnt have a problem with it (at the moment), doesnt change the legality of it though. Apple certainly do have a problem with that sort of thing mind - if your a regular on there then you might remember all the problems caused with the posting of iPhone skins that were using icons etc ripped directly from iPhones, apple went mad at them lol.

The cooked roms probably do help sell hardware - but then you could say that for most pirated stuff really

Re: Duttys DualTouch v4 RTM Release

I don't have any problem with this ROM cookery business, because as you say it sells phones at the end of the day, I had no interest in a N95 because there is much less of a capable geek scene around it.

But I was wondering how legitimate it technically is, I know someone who flashed his MDA Compact III (Artemis?) which gave him a nice free upgrade from WM5 to WM6 (IIRC) and presumably stops him from needing a new Trinity or Kaiser with a licensed install of WM6 for another six months or so...so MS and HTC both lose out there.

Re: Duttys DualTouch v4 RTM Release

There isn't a huge amount of difference betwen WM5 and WM6. That alone wouldn't stop me moving from an Artemis to a Trinity to a Kaiser, the hardware is much better

Re: Duttys DualTouch v4 RTM Release

i'm thinking about flashing to thisd, but i need to find out which version of touchflo it has.

i had the normal touchflo for a while which worked well, but i could never get the text on the media screen to work.

i not have the ftouchflo (the flash based one) and while it works, i dont like having a seperate config program to setup shortcuts/contacts and i dont like having an extra program loaded.

maybe me beingpicky, but i'd rather have the proper touchflo working than the flash based job
