The next 'must have' handset? Looks good to me, but the hands on reviews will tell all

Does it have any kind of touch interface? It's not all that clear from the preview.

It does have pretty much everything I want in a phone right now, shame it's a bit on the ugly side. Oh well, time to start saving.

I think these Windows Mobile smartphones could do with more onboard memory, I do like what I've seen of the XPERIA X1 mind you. Tasty.

Looks like it could be the phone I've been waiting for. I've been waiting for a decent WM6 phone that has 800x480 screen resolution for ages. I would have got a Kaiser if they could have squeezed the screen resolution up a bit.

320x240 is nowhere near enough for web browsing. was looking for a 640x480 but this is even better.

its got a higher res than the Asus Eee

Agreed, 320x240 is useless if you're trying to use a normal web page. I occasionally need to log support tickets when I'm out (usually when I'm on holiday) and it's painful trying to do it on my M3100.

I've actually been thinking about carrying my EEE (btw the EEE res is 800x480, same as the Sony) around in the car for emergencies and pairing it with my currrent 3G phone. Of course that means leaving it in the car and carrying chargers etc so something like this Sony could really fit the bill.

Providing it's not gigantic (i.e. E90 size) I think this will be my next phone providing nothing similar comes out before it that matches its spec.

Re: Sony Ericsson goes Windows Mobile with Xperia X1 'arc slider'

Things are atarting to look interesting on the WM QWERTY phone front, hopefully a couple of new ones with high res screens should be out when my kaiser contract is up. Screen wise I do miss the one from my universal, deffinately don't miss its size. If your interested in the touch interface if its not preinstalled somebody will port it from an existing phone.

The new N96 has only 2.8” QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) LCD TFT display. Going to hold off upgrading for a bit, see if this hits the shelves in the early summer.

Re: Sony Ericsson goes Windows Mobile with Xperia X1 'arc slider'

To answer a couple of questions, yes, it is touchscreen and it's also made by HTC (of Kaiser, Nike, Touch, Tytn fame). Let's hope Sony have persuaded them to include some decent video drivers this time!

One qn back, does anyone know if the AGPS the phone offers is true GPS with satellites backed up by quick cell-based location (the assisted bit) or whether it just does the location solely using the cell it's in? All the info I've seen on AGPS suggest a phone labelled AGPS could do either.

Re: Sony Ericsson goes Windows Mobile with Xperia X1 'arc slider'

aGPS is true GPS with cell-based location as a back up like you say.

I'm really excited about this phone, been monitoring a thread on esato for months about what is almost it... apparently though on Wednesday SE will be announcing a high end UIQ based device (the P5i) which will be what I have been reading about on the esato forums. Only problem is that according to an insider it will be at least 6 months until this phone is released, maybe even longer
