Question Going from N95 To HTC Tytn II (Kaiser)

    Hi all,

first post of this forum so wondering if you guys can share your view with me.

I currently have a Nokia N95, and it does all i want it to, texting is good, it takes a very decent photo and music playback is a definate thumbs up. I have had symbian phones for a good 4 years now and just like the way they operate.

    Until i discovered windows mobile.

I work in an Orange Shop and have been playing about with the HTC Tytn II. At first i liked the HTC Touch but in terms of features it really doesnt come up to scratch.

Anyway, ive been playing about with the kaiser and it seems a very nice phone, touch screen is great, camera is great in good light, slide out keyboard is good.

    BUT

i do quite alot of texting and although when im inside using both hands to use the keyboard or stylus wouldnt bother me, i am quite concerned how i would get on in a drunken night out when im on foot and can only use 1 hand to text with. Are there any mods you can get in order to make the touch buttons bigger, like a T9 input maybe?

Also is there any "on foot" maps applcation available for the kaiser like the nokia maps program, as i find that quite useful.

I am not at all bothered about the weight of the kaiser.

    Cheers,

    Ryan

Theres quiet a few nav programs for WM6, google maps, yahoo go!, microsoft live, TT nav (has an on foot mode), etc.

Keyboard wise I use touchpal, other option is HTC phone pad (just trying it myself).

There are plenty of add ons for it, you should be ok.

But you have to be prepared to mess about with the phone -a lot- when you get it. I reflash the rom nearly weekly at the minute, because the stock roms are pretty poor. Slow interface makes it sluggish to use, all in all it's a great phone but let down by the software.

Fortunately, there are excellent pieces of software out there to fill in the gaps.

Re: Going from N95 To HTC Tytn II (Kaiser)

ok all sounds cool and i am prepared to mess about with it as im an advanced computer user (doing a degree in networking) and am used to using windows and getting angry at it every so often.

what is the camera like? is the end result of photos anything to be sniffed at?

    cheers

Re: Going from N95 To HTC Tytn II (Kaiser)

Using a new radio and a new main rom makes a massive difference to the camera.

First time I had a play with it i decided it was unusable. In my living room, with lights on and moving the phone about just caused a huge amount of really laggy streaking. The way it is right now is pretty much the same as any of the previous SE camera phones as far a screen response etc.

I can recommend a fantastic mod to make it easy to use the touch screen. Grow your right thumbnail a bit. Then cut it to a shallow point. File it smooth so the tip is a little rounded. Job done, precision input, no stylus.

Comes in handy for peeling oranges too.

No I'm deadly serious, I did this about a year ago, and whenever I have accidentally cut it too short it's really difficult to operate the phone.

I should post it on xda.

flash a new rom onto it, they make such a big difference - dutty's come pre configured with touchflow and the cube, all you need to do is turn it on.

I find I don't use much more than the HTC home screen though.
