How do I stop my phone saying I have voicemail, when I don't!?

I've got a Nokia N80 and the voicemail icon doesn't seem to want to dissapear. For the past few weeks, it has been stuck on my phone's homescreen even though I don't have any voicemail messages.

I tried doing a firmware update last night, the update went fine, but the icon still remains.

Anybody have any suggestions on how I might rid myself of it?

*edit* I'm on Orange (unfortunately) if it helps.

Are you sure you dont have any saved messages or anything in your mailbox ?

You could also try disabling the voicemail service temporarily and setting it up again ?

If you can, and have the time, it might be worth taking it into a an Orange store. Someone there should (theoretically) be able to help.

Do what i done. Turn of voicemail. It bugged the hell out of me. Kept ringing and texting me till i listened to the message which would be a 1 sec delay and then someone hanging up. While still charging me!

Turned it off on the first week of my contract. 16months later and i still dont miss it.

Re: How do I stop my phone saying I have voicemail, when I don't!?

I definitely have no new messages, and no old messages saved. The mailbox is as clear as could be.

I've tried disabling and enabling voicemail completely, but it still tells me I have new messages. It's worst when I turn my phone off (at the cinema for example), I then turn it on later and it pops up "you have new voicemail" so I think oooh, missed a call, must be important. Then I hear "You have no new messages..."

I might have to pop into an Orange store next time I'm in town.

Re: How do I stop my phone saying I have voicemail, when I don't!?

Thats probably your best bet Parm. Tell them you want it gone and they will do it. I'm with vodafone and i went into the shop and got them to do it for me.

However i didnt have the same problem with you. I just dont like going through viocemail to hear that no-one has actually left you a message. just hang up.

Where as you have phantom callers...

Worth giving the shop a go though

Re: How do I stop my phone saying I have voicemail, when I don't!?

It's something I dread doing, but I thought I'd be brave and give Orange a quick call. To my surprise, I got through to a very polite and helpful Kaitlyn. She tried a few things, tried refreshing my voicemail, tried leaving me a message for me to delete, but none of it worked. She then spoke to one of her 'diagnostic' guys, and he said its a known fault with the N72 and N80.

Looks like the icon is here to stay, for now anyway.

I had a n80, (got a TytnII now) good phone BTW, had it for 18 months and had this problem a couple of times, to get rid, i used to switch the phone off, ring my number and leave 2 messages (ring it twice) switch back on, and listen to my messages, at the end of each message delete the message, when you have deleted both messages, wait for you orange lady to give you some more options, like review your deleted messages etc, then hang up. you icon is now magically gone.

Another point to consider is to update the phones firmware, after i installed the latest firmware, i had no problems, and longer battery life

I would take it to an Orange store and ask the staff there.

I had this with my old nokia 6600, which afaik uses the same symbian 60 series as the N80?

If so, just ring up orange support, ask them to refresh the voicemail settings on the phone, they send a sim update (which is pratically the same method as used for voicemail notification anyway) delete message restart phone all fine.

Seams odd they did't try this, thats what cured mine.

mwahahaha! I had a bit of a Google and found the answer.

If you're using a Nokia N-Series phone, and you're suffering from a 'stuck' voicemail icon, here's what to do:

Take out your SIM, put it in another phone (non-Nokia, preferably)
Call your number, leave a voicemail
Call voicemail from the handset, delete the message
Swap your SIM back into your Nokia and voila, stuck icon is gone

Im having a slightly similar problem with my N95, although not with voicemail, but with the missed call icon. I cant get rid of it what ever I try! its driving me nuts when it goes into screensaver mode, I look at it later and think ooh missed call, but nope
