    Bluetooth kit and customs/VAT/Tax

I recently bought 15 bluetooth earpieces in an online auction.

I bought them for £90 quid each, I want to go and pick them up from the country I bought them in because the seller is taking too long to respond. My question is will I have to pay VAT or Tax when I arrive back in England? Strictly they are gifts for family and friends but I can understand that having so many may oblige me to pay tax.

My second question is do I have to declare them when I get to England?

All advice would be much appreciated!

Bought from where? If it's outside the EC, and if they're over the allowance (about £145) which, at that price they are, then yes, you'll be liable for duty and VAT. That allowance, by the way, is the total for goods brought in, not per item.

If you arrive in the UK from a non-EC country and have more than your allowance in goods, then yes, you need to go through red and declare them.

If, however, you've bought them in another EC country, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Yes I have paid for them and it's not a scam but thanks for the concern. Anyhow, I'm picking them up from Slovenia... that's not a member of the EU yet is it?

Yes, it is. Joined in 2004, along with nine other countries, including a number of Eastern European ones, like Poland.

Therefore, as I understand it, no import duty or VAT .... at least, not in the UK. If the seller is VAT registered, you should be charged VAT in Slovenia ..... IF he's VAT-registered.

I've got to ask - £90 each for bluetooth earpiece?
Which ones are they? Seems awfully expensive if its just a normal bluetooth earpiece.

I paid less than $90 for my motorolla A2DP/handsfree kit (bout £30) so any more than that isnt really justified IMO
