Re: anyone know good iphone forums?

ive heard the apple forums are very cleaky and i doubt they would let u post about jailbroken fones and other more taboo subjects which apparently apple mods dont like

and am excellent suggestion about hexus having one , as this is the forum iv always came to for advice on anything!

Re: anyone know good iphone forums?

And it's those "more taboo" issues that could cause us problems, too.

Unlocking phones isn't (as I understand it) illegal, but some of the jailbreak techniques certainly seem legally dubious. It puts Hexus in an awkward position if it turns out that what's being discussed in those "taboo" subjects is illegal, or even sometimes illegal (because illicit Apple code is being used). It's also a potentially huge problem for us trying to work out what is and what isn't illegal.

    I don't think it's a good idea, I'm afraid.

Re: anyone know good iphone forums?

except the jailbreaking thing isn't going to be cost effective anymore.....

apple have made a simple adjustment for the 3g version....

you can't leave the store without signing up to a contract....

so jailbreaking will be a waste of money.......

and as for discussing it: could hexus not put a disclaimer to the effect of "the thoughts and comments expressed in HEXUS.community are the property of the individual makeing them, they are not in any way linked to the views of HEXUS, thus releasing HEXUS from any legal responsibility"... well you get my drift, i know'll you'll have already thought about it and why not to say it, or something like that.......

Re: anyone know good iphone forums?

That kind of disclaimer has no legal effect.

It's perfectly valid if, for instance, you're a newspaper saying that the opinions of a guest columnist don't represent the views of the paper, but it doesn't protect from from liability for civil matters like defamation. Think about it - if it did, there'd never be a defamation case against a newspaper, because every article would have that disclaimer.

Even more, it doesn't protect you from criminal liability, and some forms of copyright infringement are criminal offences if done as part of a business. And Hexus is a business.

As a practical measure, we don't want to be spending money or time in court splitting legal hairs. If you tried that kind of disclaimer and, for example, Apple's lawyers decided to challenge it, Hexus would either have to cave in, or be prepared to spend a lot of money arguing the point in court. As a simple practical matter, it's not a fight worth having over a dubious practice in relation to something that isn't even part of Hexus' business focus, but something members may discuss on a forum. Where it's a core business matter, such as review materials, Hexus takes care with what it publishes and stands behind it. But risking court cases over member's dubious forum posts? I don't think so.

Re: anyone know good iphone forums?

lol looks like i was taken out of context , im not too fussed about unlocking mine as it will be a secondary phone to my n95 , im not totally sold on the no buttons approach i mainly want it to use as an ipod touch and have the ability to call and use the internet whenever i may need leaving my n95 to work on as it has the past year and a bit

when i say taboo i hear the apple forums do not take criticism atall i cant remember the issue i think it was something to do with time machine or when their current release osx camed out there was alot of issues , people were very unhappy and vocal about and there posts were being deleted, plus i cant be bothered mixing with the hardcore fanboys as it will merely be a toy for me im not loyal to any brand or product i would have every gadget under the sun if u could

all im looking for is hardware reviews like skins docks accesories etc and software for the phone i found one called iphone alley which was fairly limited in its reviews and everything seemed to get 4 out of 5 stars or above and everything had a mention of how wonderfull it is using a mac, a bit biased for my liking

Yes, I can't post links until I have more posts, so I'll sign up and then try and post some links, but I'm not sure if it's all a bit futile because the mods will catch me... damn.
