    Could VOIP conect mobile phone?

I heard a lot about VOIP. but dont have a clear idea about it. how it works? I'm wondering if it possible to use voip on a moblie phone. it might work out cheaper to make phone calls trough voip rather than the moblie phone network.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Could VOIP conect mobile phone?

For VOIP to work on your phone you will need a generous data package and a phone that can handle VOIP software.

It's just really smartphone that have VOIP software available for them, the Nokia Symbian handsets along with WindowsMobile devices for example. Networks tend to lock this software out of their handsets though, just for this very reason.

There are usually ways round the lockouts, but you will probably be in breach of your contract if you do this.

The top data package from t-mobile does let you use VOIP software though.

Re: Could VOIP conect mobile phone?

Nokia phones allow you to use SIP.

Now SIP is a connection protocol that can be used for voip calls. Companys like voiceflex.co.uk and sipgate.com Allow you to get a sip number and you can get this set up on your Sip enabled mobile.
The problem is that mobile providors in this country can see the possiblility of them losing profits if they allow SIP so most of the customer firmwares on mobiles remove the feature.
SIP can work using mobiles wirless connection which makes it a lot cheaper to make calls than using ur mobile connection If you have a package that gives you free internet access on ur mobille then it would make calls cheaper using that.

yes it's very cheap using VOIP calls. but it seems not so easy to use it via mobile phone

Re: Could VOIP conect mobile phone?

IF ya get a contract with free internet access then it might work out free. The only issue will be latentcy on the calls bandwidth should be fine as its less than 64k for a call.

I did a lot of stuff on SIP in my last job

Re: Could VOIP conect mobile phone?

you might wish to investigate skype to-go.

for a couple of quid a month - they provide you number to call (from any phone) - from that number call is then routed voip and at voip rates.

not exactly what you asked about - but cheaper than having to buy a wifi enabled phone & find a hotspot

PS works well with Nokia n800 - which has no other phone capability

Re: Could VOIP conect mobile phone?

hey guys do u know USB to RJ11 adaptor box?
It seems could convert an internet VOIP call into regular RJ11 phone port so that you can use a regular phone to receive FREE internet phone call. and there is a specially PSTN port so also can use regular land phone service with the same phone machine.
I just see this, not sure whether is it real

Re: Could VOIP conect mobile phone?

    Has anyone tried these?

I was always under the assumption that one mobil voip call would eat through an entire month's data alotment
