Yup, it's not something that I would recommend to people who just want a phone. I love the options it gives you and the sheer selection of software available is great, but most of my friends would probably give up in frustration.

It doesn't matter how many fancy interfaces they put on it (i.e. Touch Flo, X1 Panels etc) it's still windows mobile and made for techies. But then, much of the technology built into the phones is aimed at users who have specific requirements. Most people don't know why they would need an 800x480 screen whilst it's exactly what I've been wanting for 2 years (actually VGA would have done, but I'm not complaining).

    Re: iPhone or Blackberry Storm

Can the Blackberry be used on any network? I'm on Orange - but really like the look of the Storm (a colleague has just gone one).
The ball is a very clever feature, much like a nipple on a laptop keyboard.

I've got a Bold and I'm really pleased with it. Setting up BES was a bit of a sod, but I don't expect most end users would get involved with it.

The only gripe I have is the way the profiles are setup. I wanted mine to vibrate and ring so I chose the option for 'tone + vibrate' but what it actually goes is vibrate a number of times (you can choose 1, 2 or 3), then the tone plays then it vibrates again. Net result is that it'll only physically ring once before going to voicemail which seems daft to me, so I've disabled the vibrate and set it to tone only.

    Re: iPhone or Blackberry Storm

I'm in the same spot, i'm due for an upgrade on the 20th, so I've been putting a lot of thought into the iPhone/Storm/Android question, and I think that it depends which features are most important to you particularly.

The Storm has a better camera, 3.2mp vs iPhones 2mp, and also Storm camera has a zoom, and a flash, as well as being able to record video (iPhone can only do this via an application). Also on the Storm you can edit documents, whereas on the iphone you can only view them. You've gotta pay extra for the 16GB SD card for the Storm too, although there's potential to upgrade higher in the future if cards become available. Not having to use iTunes is a huge plus point for me, although the Storm having no WiFi is a bit of a bummer as it can come in handy at times when abroad.

    Re: iPhone or Blackberry Storm

There are plans to update the Storm to include WiFi (according to El Reg), so personally I'd wait a bit before getting one.

    Re: iPhone or Blackberry Storm

    I have this exact problem

I woud not touch the iPhone

    I narrowed it down to

    Blackberry Storm (Vodafone)
    Samsung Omnia
    HTC Touch HD (Orange)

Don't like Orange Tarrifs so it was between the Samsung and Blackberry and the fact I wanted this for email and features and Push email I want the Blackberry.

Played around with both, and tbh i prefer the bold 9000 as well, so work has got me one of those instead.

    Re: iPhone or Blackberry Storm

I'm a BlackBerry lover, I have my work, personal and University email accounts tied to it (it gets to my BlackBerry quicker than some of my Gmail accounts realise they got emails!) and I leave all my IM's always online... AIM for American and music contacts, MSN for personal contacts and Yahoo for all my relatives and friends in Asia. I always leave those online 24/7 so they can get to me, and set my status accordingly sometimes if I'm asleep, in class, etc.

The way it works is so nicely, and I've owned maaaaany phones before this (including two Windows Mobile phones) and finally seen my home. I have a Pearl so I have Suretype, it takes about a week to get used to but its SO EPIC now I'm used to it. The only time it really lets you down is if you try and type in another language (since obviously mine is set to English, so I have to just set it to Multitap mode) or when you're typing letters or codes you've never typed before.

BlackBerry all the way unless you want the fancy apps etc, which would mean the iPhone is the obvious choice. Wifi isn't all that good because it doesn't support Push and I can't be bothered to use Wifi for YouTube or webbrowsing much because I tend to only use it when I'm in my home, where I have my laptop. However, 3G would be an epic thing to have.

If you concentrate hard enough, you may be able to feel the aura of jealousy that's emitting from my room here in Birmingham...

    Congrats on the new phone!

    Re: iPhone or Blackberry Storm

I've got an iPhone and love it. My missus got herself a Blackberry Storm today, all looking great but one major snag. To enable syncing of your contacts and calendar you need to buy the £25 month bolt on.

All standard contracts come with BIS which enables you to get exchange email/Gmail etc but the above cost is just a pure rip off.

I also hate the clicky screen feeling, iPhone wins hands down for me here.

    Re: iPhone or Blackberry Storm

I love my Iphone but I'm not upgrading as I have to be able to switch between my Iphone and my Blackberry for now. If I upgrade, I think I would lose that functionality.
