    Re: iPhone or Blackberry Storm

Neither the iPhone, nor the blackberry storm can do this

Yep, I can now perform disk recovery/malware removal and imaging etc on most computers by booting them from my mobile phone.
It's currently got an 8GB SDHC card but it'll be much more usefull with a 32 GB one as I may even be able to image PC's to it if I forget the rest of my tools.

What's it like? I'd heard there were some software issues, though not as bad as the Storm, allegedly. What's it like to browse the web?

    Re: iPhone or Blackberry Storm

The iPhone 3g rectified pretty much all the problems with the 1st Gen one, I don't see what there isn't to like about it . Blackberry's are a lot more Windows friendly, and a lot more sophisticated, but then again, they don't feature an iPod within now do they.

The software issues was limited to Orange only, apparently they had problems with 3G, could not resolve it and hence stopped selling it.

I cant talk for other providers, but ours is with BT Business (running over Vodaphone network) and works perfectly, no matter if using 3G or WIFI. Browsing is easy and intuitive (I have heard its even better if used with the Opera browser mod you can download - will try)

    a few things i noticed....

    No true direct push email
No ability to view all email accounts in a singe inbox
Not being able to background apps while working on another
    No cut and paste
Not being able to view/edit standardised business documents (Ms/excel/pps) etc
Not being able to simply swap in a spare battery
    No expandable memory
    No Camera Flash
No Keyboard (personal one - just don't like typing on touch screen)

Some of the above might of changed but was what i noticed when i played with one a while back.

Thanks for replying Barichello. I'm an iphone 3G user, though am more than aware of its limitations and am always on the lookout for something else. I'm just intrigued about the storm and would like to have a day playing with one. Just to throw another thing in the pot, the Nokia N97 look interesting.

Here's a detailed review of the Storm from the guys over at Engadget:

Cheers for the link. Interesting comparisons between the storm and bold there on that vid clip being run side by side. I have to say i thought the storm seemed slower etc opening up apps, moving around etc and they also picked up on this as well.

Forgive me, but i have to disagree, i have had the phone for 4-5 weeks now and granted it takes a little getting used to, but that goes for all things "new" that part of the fun, But the phone is great

As the saying goes one man's Sh1t is another man's gold,

The best advice is to go in the shop and have a go with which ever phone takes your fancy, the salesman will let you have a go with every single phone in the shop if it means him getting a sale.

with regards the Vodafone forums, of course your going to get people who have problems on there, its the same the world over, people only want to be heard when they have a problem, if you didn't have problems then the forums would be empty, im pretty sure the iPhone have the same forums with people complaining about something or other, which is cool thats what forums are for, but to single out the "STORM" is unfair,

    a couple of points

    a) How long has the Storm been out compared to the iPhone
    b) How many firmware updates has the iPhone had compared to the Storm

Its hard to compare the 2 tbh, its all about which phone has the best functionality for you.

and Personally think they are 2 different phones for 2 different types of users.

just want to add that I'm not slagging off the iPhone as i think its a good phone, i just prefer the Storm as its more suiting for what I need.

The Bold is a great Phone, and the new Javelin 8900 (Using the Curve Platform) is also good, Blackberry have been testing the software for months and it is a very stable runner. The Storm was released a bit too soon in my opinion, needing time to evaluate some of the irritating slow speeds on it there are plenty of firmware updates available now that make it work very well.

    Re: iPhone or Blackberry Storm

iphone got my vote, but then it would I bought one

It does have its limitations but I've overcome most of these with a little jailbreak, so annoyances such as no text forwarding or normal inbox/outbox/templtaes in sms etc have gone I've also resolved the MMS issue using SwirlyMMS and also have copy paste now. Granted these are all things that Apple should have supplied out of the box but for a few quid I was able to get them and keep the iphone which IMHO has the best user interface of any phone on the market at themmoment.

So your advocating an in my mind overpriced, phone, that to get the functionality the competition has, you have to invalidate your warranty?

    Nice logic there sir!

Never said it was logical to do so, but if its a problem not having this functionality then its your only option, and as I stated its functionality that Apple should have included out of the box. With regard to the warranty the phone can be restored to standard so providing its not entirely dead its not a problem. But I take your point
