    C905 vs. N85, decisions?!

So I'm looking at a new semi-work phone (well, this'd be more of a play thing tbh - we have some of these for actual work), and I'm stuck.

Requires: a decent camera. Lens quality over pixel count really, so the 5 vs. 8 doesn't matter to me.
Wireless with WPA2 - can't find any information on support for this?
Fair GPS reception. Can't expect much more that that from a compromise device.

Now I've had a hands-on look at a C905 and it's a bit big for my taste, I also didn't have chance to test the WPA or GPS. I liked the camera - took about 4 seconds from slide to shoot. Operating system seemed sluggish. The N85 is an unknown quantity as I haven't found a shop with one in stock (as yet), or a friend who's already bought one

I'm staying away from the N96 since those I know with them have said the thing is too big, and sucks the battery dry at an alarming rate!

Opinions on both/either/alternatives if you will please?

The N85... is that the old slider one ?

If so... that thing is smaller than the N96 footprint wise, but it's damn chunky !

EDIT: Don't worry, i saw one when i was out today, i'd mixed it up with the older N80 which was a beast.

This didn't look to bad actually...

Nokias tend to be more reliable and formal as Sony Ericcsons tend to be more made for their camera / music player etc.

I'm very happy with my Samsung i8510. Great camera, feels well built.

LG Renoir has 8MP camera, full touch interface wireless and also GPS. Might be worth having a go of one of those.

    Re: C905 vs. N85, decisions?!

Well Ive had the se c905 since launch and its a brilliant phone.

I dont like nokia phones and cant get used to the interface but then nokia users feel the same about se phones usually.

If you have been a se user before then you`ll love the new phone if your a nokia user then it might be better with the nokia

    Re: C905 vs. N85, decisions?!

Nokia's started to get flakey, but I went for them one last time, and wasn't dissapointed. My friend has the N85, and I have the N95. Both of us are very happy with them. Judging from reviews the C905 is a solid phone too. I would just look at the feature set and decide from there really, does it do everything you want, do you feel more comfortable with one or the other. Down to personal preference after that. Good luck

    Re: C905 vs. N85, decisions?!

Looking at at N85 myself; Been a happy windows mobile man for many years but as everything WM is trying to be an i-phone and I can't stand a touch screeen interface (ever tried texting on a post 2 hour call? Ear sweat anyone?), the N85 looks to tick all my boxes.

Whats annoying me is a general lack of stock to go and actually see one. Oh and also the fact that I could order a new one on contract with orange from places like phones4u, but not from orange themselves. Clearly they've not had time to apply their usual "personalisations" to it!

Not a fan of touch screen phones either, so I bought a N82 in the summer.

Been very happy with it, love the flexibility of Symbian.

    Re: C905 vs. N85, decisions?!

had an N95 for a year now (shame it isn't the 8gb version though) but i have an 8gb memory card in it.

none the less, haven't had any problems with it at all, even though 2 of my friends are actually on their 2nd N95 lol. but then i've never had the RROD on my xbox either.. lol guess i'm lucky like that.. well lucky in that way, but not with PC's lol but i suppose leaving the PC on 24/7 365 days a year is gonna take it's toll eventually..

the GPS works well, and can use Nokia MAps or even Google Maps. and it does work with wireless WEP & WPA2

This is the thing... I've not seen one around in the wild yet! I could get one online from Vodafone, so maybe one of their shops. All academic really though; our guy at O2 tells me they don't carry the N85 yet (even though it's 6 months old). We have an exclusive contract. Darn.

So, second choice C905 it is...

Thx for the replies guys. Just reaffirming that, if it wasn't needed last week, I'd have to go with the Nokia..! :/

N95 8GB? the 8GB looks better, bigger screen and faster! Still one of the best phones available

    Re: C905 vs. N85, decisions?!

I had a terrible experience with my N82 (black edition), which was the first Nokia I had bought. The keys were horrible and the battery life was very poor too. Although Symbian is very flexible, there is no denying it, there were also lots of things about it that annoyed me. It was very slow and seemed to suffer from a lack of consistency with the interface. Specific issues included: non-intelligent connections, a buggy e-mail client and poor podcast software e.g. having to manually select 3G or wireless all the time, a bug with IMAP e-mail that made the phone unusable and an inability to resume podcasts.

I switched to a C905 and never looked back. All of its core features are much better in my opinion and everything works as expected without trouble. The one and only downside is that it isn't a 'smartphone' like the Nokia, so you cannot obtain as many third-party applications.

    Re: C905 vs. N85, decisions?!

I got a n96 and agree battery is a little poor but its not too bad. The GPS is amazing - just did my hour drive home with google maps on satellite mode - Its amazing what you drive past but can't see! Nokia maps seems ok but £40 a year for driving instructions is overpriced in my opinion). I've only got WPA1 but it works 100% (and connects quicker and more reliable than my laptop).
