Question Are Virgin Mobile any good?

Just wanted to know what Virgin Mobile are like for call service and also customer service (if there are problems). Which network do they piggyback?

I've had good service from both Orange (in the past) and T-mobile who I am currently with. I also have a 2nd mobile with three and have to say they have been absolutely terrible, although the last problem they seemed to have improved slightly on dealing with it.

    Thanks

Re: Are Virgin Mobile any good?

Last I known Virgin were piggy backing the T Mobile network. Good few year ago I was using Virgin and had no probs with signal or service. Since then they have actually got bigger and better but they still don't have their own masts.

Re: Are Virgin Mobile any good?

I've been with Virgin for frickin' ages. As stated above they're piggy backed on T-Mobile, so if you're in an area with poor T-Mobile coverage then you'll get bad Virgin coverage too. Customer Service is on the whole pretty awesome, and very friendly. I rarely have to wait long to speak with them if I need to, and they seem reasonably knowledgeable.

That said I'm having handset issues at the moment. I took out a contract about 10 months ago and went through 3 Sony Ericsson W910i handsets, all suffering from an issue which caused the phone to restart randomly multiple times a day. I've just had my last one swapped for a W890i, which it turns out has a duff main speaker so there's no ringtone when people call (though after some Googling it seems a pretty common issue with this handset) - that should be swapped out tomorrow, and we'll see where we stand.

I'm not intending on renewing the contract due to current work situation, but I'll be sticking with Virgin and moving back to PAYG. The only real downside to VM is that their choice of handsets is a lot more limited than most companies.

Re: Are Virgin Mobile any good?

as already stated they piggy back on T-mobile.
the Virgin mobile setup seems to have very little to do with Virgin Media & consequently seem better organised etc. - I've been with them now for about 6 months with no problems.

While they don't have much to do with Virgin Media I do get a whole bunch of "since you're with us for your mobile, how about your broadband and TV" mail and calls.

Re: Are Virgin Mobile any good?

as a cable customer I'm happy with my £10pm 300+300 deal.
T-Mobile reception is better at work, home and some social locations for me than Vodafone was.

Was on Virgin mobile for a bit, and never had any problems with poor reception or anything. Just as good as Vodafone which I'm on currently.

Re: Are Virgin Mobile any good?

I always thought virgin was pretty good. And i just found out that they are coming out with a new plan for low income people that provides 120 minutes for 10 bucks. Sounds pretty good. The problem is for most of their customers wouldnt may able to get it. I think it is quite unfair to only provide it to a certain group of people. While people who have had virgin for a long time will not be able to get in on the deal.

Re: Are Virgin Mobile any good?

I got my phone today after signing up with Virgin. The protective case was listed as aprt of the contents but I didn't receive one. Had to call customer service and it was not good. The chap was not listening and fobbed me off to the now updated page which doesn't show the case. I asked how come someone else received theirs.

    Not impressed at all.

Re: Are Virgin Mobile any good?

Hi, I signed up with virgin for about 3 months now. Maybe I am just unlucky but here is the list of problems I have had with them.

    1. Ordered the phone online, then found out they sent it to the wrong address. (fair enough anyone can make that mistake once in a while)

    2. Spoke to the operator and asked if I can cancel that one and just go to the virgin shop to get one because they told me it was going to take 2 weeks to fix it up. Also asked if I was going to get charged for 2 phones. They told me no problems it will be fine.

    3. First bill came, I was charged for 2 phone plans. Called them up and they told me it was sorted.

    4. Second bill came, again I was charged for 2 phone plans. Called them up again. It has been 2 weeks and they still haven't figured out what the problem was.

    5. Had insurance on the phone, had something wrong with it so i called up the insurance directly and asked if it was an issue that would be covered. They told me yes, but I have to first call up the virgin mobile and ask them to put me through from their department but the virgin operator must stay on the call at the same time. Did that. First operator had no idea what I was saying. Second operator put me through but did not stay online.

    6. I was well below my internet data cap but it said i was out of credits. Called up the virgin customer service. I told them my problem and straight away the operator said hold and then transferred me to talk to a machine.

Virgin has got to be the worst mobile service I have come across and I am stuck on a 2 year contract with them.

    This makes me very upset.

And they still have the wrong address on the bill after they told me they have changed it 3 times.

Re: Are Virgin Mobile any good?

I think Virgin Mobile are OK. Not the best in customer service, but not the worst either. I was with them back when they were only doing pay as you go, and I quite liked the service - I only switched because I was using my phone enough to justify getting a contract.

Some friends and people at work I know still use Virgin and seem happy with it. I personally think that as long as the signal strength is OK in your area you should be fine - as for when something goes wrong there's a lot of luck involved in how/whether it gets resolved (and this is true for any of the mobile operators out there)

Re: Are Virgin Mobile any good?

Would echo that Virgin Mobile are alright - nothing spectacular. Signal strength in my area (East London) varied dramatically. That said, 30p a day for mobile internet (although capped) is decent if you have low data usage.
Switched to o2 lately as I could not stand losing signal that often.

Re: Are Virgin Mobile any good?

Got my missus a Virgin mobile contract as we got a good deal from Virgin media. 12months+ in and i must say its been excellent. No problems what so ever. Signal is good , even in a poor reception area. My flat usually gave me broken or lost signal with my orange contract. I changed since to T mobile and they are excellent. After reading this thread and understanding the mask relationship between Virgin and T mobile its clear why they both work so well in my area.
When her contract is up , as long as i get a good deal then im happy to stay with them.
T mobile are doing the Solo sim only options now. Really good return for your monthly money. But im sure Virgin will match it.
