    Iphone 3G

    Play.com are offering unlocked SIM-free Iphones at about £540 & £600
    • which is considerably cheaper than the current contractual commitment.
    • Though clearly you need to factor in the cost of calls...
    • I already have a Vodafone 3G modem (and 3Gb pm contract)

I've seen lots of comments about not being able to use it as a modem in the US.

Has anybody been able to use it as a tethered 3G modem in the UK?
(ie with wifi or Bluetooth tethering to laptop)

Factory unlocked? Don't know of any I'm afraid.

There is the option of o2 PAYG and Jailbreaking though.

    Re: Iphone 3G

I've been considering picking one up from Europe. Presumably if they're offering them from Play, however, then Apple UK will warranty it. My 2G one went on the blink about 6 months after getting it - camera doesn't work and it sometimes doesn't wake from sleep - and as I'd jailbroken it, Apple wouldn't touch it.

Could you not restore you iPhone to its original state and then return it?

    Re: Iphone 3G

I went into my local Apple shop and they told me that they'd need to verify it didn't work with my SIM, and that they didn't have any activated O2 SIMs to hand. Eventually I did get an offer to return it to Apple direct, but didn't take them up on it.

    Re: Iphone 3G

Drop it on eBay - I did that a few years back with a broken iPaq (smashed screen). I put up pictures and a full description and someone still bought it for ~ £70. I guess if you know what you're doing it's repairable.

May give it a go, I usually try and avoid E-bay and save myelf from all the spam... I had someone begging to give me £200 for it already, so I think i've got a good price for it already .
