What's the iphone 3? if you mean 4g, then I'm here for that too.
By the way, the next iphone will be the 4th gen. The original iPhone design came out with 2 gens. and the current one is the 3rd gen. (also including 3G capabilities), so the next is the 4th.
This was a spammy thread by fwdmedia so they could post a link in another thread, which got deleted.
As for the iPhone 3:
The current model is the second generation of phone, but uses 3G wireless. The replacement handset will be the third generation of iPhone, but will still use 3G wireless (well perhaps you could call it 3.5G). 4G doesn't exist in any meaningful form at the moment. Seeing how Apple is usually one or two steps behind everyone else when it comes to phone technologies, you'll be waiting for a good few years if you want a 4G wireless iPhone.
No-one has news when it is out. As soon as there is something, it will be all over the internet as well as mainstream media. Until then there are rumours and speculation. For more on that go visit some of the Blog sites like Engadget or MacRumours
I beg to dissagree, correct me if i'm wrong of course. The 3G iPhone (i was always aware that it encorporated 3G technology), but it was also the 3rd generation/version of the iPhone. 3G iPhone had 2 predecessors. I am pretty sure, if i remember correctly, hardware wise it was upgraded between the 2 first generations of the iPhone (i'm excluding the memory upgrade as a hardware advancement). And of course the software for the phone was upgraded numerous times. And then they came out with the 3G iPhone, which of course incorporates 3G connectivity and 3rd generation of the phone. So when i meant 4G i meant fourth generation and not 4G connectivity. Am i correct?
Nope. Only two versions.
There way a fairly significant software bump inbetween, 1.2 or something like that, but again, that doesn't count.
See here for details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iphone#Specifications
Okay. I guess I had the wrong idea the whole time, I swear I read somewhere, long ago that the 3G was the 3rd version....
Wow... I was a victim of the junk people write on the web. I'm sorry about that. I was so sure of it too! Thanks for the verified info, on that!
It's easily done, especially when the likes of Apple do rediculous things... like release a phone in 2007 without 3G!
I work for O2 and have heard nothing at all with regards to a new iPhone. There was an Apple seminar a few weeks back where managers went and apparently there was no mention at all with regards to new hardware.
I think Apple are getting ready for the launch of the version 3 software and will be pushing that more than anything else as it gives loads of new functionality to the device.
As for 3G, mentioned in 07 there was no 3G on the iPhone. Look at what Blackberry have just done with the new Curve 8900, no 3G on that either!!! Still love it though, great phone but browsing using the mobile network can be really slow at times.
No, that's true, the BlackBerry Curve 8900 isn't equipped with 3G. Stupid, I agree. But I think they were trying to re-design the phone to appeal to a different group, perhaps a younger crowd, say college students. As if you notice the Curve is cheaper, and it looks cheaper too. Don't get me wrong, I love the phone, but sad thinking it has no 3G, and the plastic exterior... such a turn off. The bold was a bit better, but still, fake leather? Come on... I think BlackBerry could do much better on the design of their phones, please make them thinner too!
As for now, i stick with my Nokia e71. ****ty interface, but sexy exterior! I used to use the 3G iPhone; crashed on me numerous times, that I started hating the phone.
Well I just bought a new one unlocked from Play.com so expect to see the next version released by the end of the week.
Enjoy! iPhone is a fun phone if you take advantage of the apps. I kind of miss the touch system on that phone = (
Who knows what the next gen iphone will bring us?! Maybe I just might switch back over hahah.
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz, 2 GB DDR2, 500GB SATA-II 7200RPM, nVidia GeForce 9800GT 512mb, BenQ E2200 HD, BenQ G2412HD, Logitech S510 Wireless set, Creative GigaWorks T3 Speakers.
iPhone version 3 software will add the following functionality amongst other things..
- Picture / MMS capability (Finally the iPhone comes up to date with other phones released post 2003).
- Copy and Pasting (tap and hold screen in texts etc will bring up a copy/cut/paste menu).
- Spotlight built in for easily searching the iPhone. New search features also incroperated in Mail, iPod and Notes.
- Turning the phone landscape will now also rotate the keyboard for texts / internet / Mail & notes to make typing on the OSK easier.
- Including dictaphone capability.
- New Youtube app will allow access to Youtube subscriptions and allow you to rate videos and leave comments.

:: of all the things i've lost i miss my mind the most ::
Probably June if you are too believe what you hear on the web, Apple have filed a load of new patents and purchasing thousands of memory modules so this could suggest a new iPhone release is iminent.
I asked at an O2 store and they were adament that an new iPhone isn't due to be released but I have also heard that the top executives already have them for testing?, also I have heard that the iPhone isn't going to be exclusive to O2, which could be why they don't know anything yet or maybe they do but they just want to shift the "old" version first.
Lots of speculaation, only time will tell.
http://www.iclarified.com is a good site for MAC / Apple news.....
O2 stores will know when we do, perhaps a tiny bit before, but i would say a matter of hours if not less. In fact officially, they might get their info well after an Apple keynote announcing it. I ouldn't have thought any of the top execs would get involved in testing. Perhaps they just have then to make them feel more important and exclusive.
The latest rumour is it will have a 600mhz processor 32MB and a 3.2mpix camera.

MOre than likely they need to shift the old stock before they start giving details about a new phone.
Macrumors does have some interesting information on it
