The Touch Pro 2 looks even nicer - I think I need to go back to a proper keyboard and a phone that doesn't look like its from the 80's

    Ouch.

The Touch HD is one amazing bit of kit - so powerful it hardly lags, even running on WinMo.
I'm waiting (and praying) for someone to port Android over to it, the I'm off to the shops like a shot!

my housemate has an HD (even managed to get it free without an obscene contract ) - its lovely , but I want a keyboard !

the ipaq is ugly - I thought it would be very functional but it manages to suck a lot - the newer ones are a little easier on the eye though.

To be honest I've never had an issue with that, but then I probably have to type a number into my phone at the dialer about once a month at the most. It isn't as issue with the dialer I have on this ROM.

The Diamond 2 is pretty nearly identical to the Touch HD, just a bit taller, a bit narrower and a bit lighter.

Wi-fi does not kill GSM signal.

Thats good news then, it was about the only thing that bugged me about the phone. It was just intermitant and random. Suddenly I'd get no gsm signal because the phone had just connected to my home network and I had to reboot the phone to get coverage back . Very odd but other than that I absolutely loved the phone, feels much better in the hand than an iPhone and I do like the os and Google Market. Personally I think if it's marketed right it could give the iPhone a bit of a scare. The only thing it's missing is the Apple logo and then the masses would love it.

As the g1 is the 5th best selling smart phone in America, despite looking like a smacked arse, I wonder what the smaller, thinner, better looking g2 can do over there!

The number delay thing is caused by smartdial, turned off in dial options. Think its ment to look at your contacts when you type a number in, in realitiy most people use a contacts app on the home screen.

Please don't turn this into a WinMo vs Android debate - I've used WinMo non-stop since I was 16ish (I'm nearly 25 now) - after about 10 years of usage the deficiencies are disgusting apparent - they always have been, but there's never been an alternative, which thankfully there is now, 2 of them (although I think the Iphone [unjailbroken] is a toy) and Android is massively in it's infancy.

What I liked about WinMo was the fact that just about everything could be customised and changed, but still the problems (not just the dialer) were there. I gambled on Android, and am bloody glad I did - it felt awkward and weird for a while, but I'm absolutely enjoying using my phone now, something that I couldn't say before, even with the original SPV, the E500, the a1000, the TYTN, The HTC Touch, the TYTN II, the Orbit II, and the diamond - I never managed to enjoy using it, even with superb roms cooked by the best Rom makers around (Duttythroy for a start), even with lots of great free apps the annoying bugginess still got to me.

Still I thought they could fix the problems with Windows Mobile 7, I'll wait around for that...
Oh. The new Browser on it. It's based on IE6. Thanks MS. Thanks a lot.

Seriously. That's been brewing for 10 years

A problem was raised with winmo, which I have suffered with so I told people how to solve it. And I believe you were the first to bring winmo up

    Odd.

Having the X1 - which granted is one of the more powerful WinMo handsets - I have yet to experience much if any lag dialling numbers. The phone is still as it shipped from Vodafone as I haven't had a chance to play, so I doubt I've disabled it...

With respect Flibb, I've used the devices for about 10 years, and I've turned Smartdial off on pretty much every phone I've had, and the problem has been there - in fact the only phone without it was the Touch HD (which I didn't own but tried).

Seriously, get your WinMo phone, go to the dialer, and type in a number you know off by heart as fast as you can. You'll have missed numbers, I pretty much guarantee it.

The X1 I suspect is similar to the HTC HD in that it's powerful enough to run WinMo lag free.

I ran most of Duttythroys roms on my Kaiser, as well as a few others, and not one passed the test I posted above, you must have a very good Rom.

I didnt bother updating the roms for a while and found that the winmo 6.5 roms, and new radios increased responsiveness and give better battery life.

    Can't say I used any 6.5 Roms. 6.1 yes, 6.5 no.
