3 Mobile - If You Are Then Read On

    Morning all,
Firstly please please don't turn this into a rant thread as it isn't what the post is for.
However, they have been a bit naughty and there is a way to make a saving.........read on.

if you use a 3 contract mobile then you would've had an add-on, at no expense, called 3'Like Roam'. As 3 is global, what happens is that when abroad (not only Europe but there are a few exceptions), and you connect to the 3 network in that country, you are not charged for calls. You only use your 3 free minutes.

As of 21st June (iirc), this is to cease and the prices kick in again.

As i travel alot, and want to make use of this i wasn't happy. I have 2 contracts with them and thought i would chance my arm as they are making a substantial change to the terms and therefore things aren't right.

So....this morning i called and spoke to someone in India called Jonathon (yeah righto).

After only 4 mins of speaking to him, and telling him that this isn't acceptable, he offered to either cut the cost of both my contracts by 50% to stay or i could cancel both without penalty. :O

This suprised me, and although 3 aren't the best, i personally find the service, coverage and price really good so i accepted the discount.

This brings my plans down to:
Contract 1 - Mix and Match 1100: Usually £28 per month ----now £14 per month (16 months left) (Blackberry Storm)
    Contract 2 - Mix and Match 700: Usually £24 per month------now £12 per month (9 months left) (Nokia E71)

The prices are not the same as advertised i dont think as loyalty discounts were also applied.

So.......if you are with 3, make the call if you have received the message stating the 3 Like Roam is ceasing. (if not just say you have).

Remember though, they will check to see if you have use the roaming. If you have, you have alot more leverage. If you haven't, just tell them you plan to in the near future.

This only applies to people that took out a contract pre April 2009.

Yeh my dad used this when he went on holiday a few weeks ago, unfortunately he rang up before this and they fobbed him off so will be getting him to ring up again as its better to try and get something.

I havent had a problem with 3 at all to be honest, support is ok just like every big company now adays so i dont expect it especially as VM is the worst lol/

Re: 3 Mobile - If You Are Then Read On

I got them to give me my pac code, they offered £10 first but i kept insisiting the change was detrimental (breach of their contract) as family had moved abroad and so contacting is important on holiday. Im now free saved me 3 months contract and going to get the lg arena 600mins/unlimited text for less than the contract with 3! (£17.50 for 3 with nokia 6500 300mix/match, o2 is £16).

I'm with Animus on this one. Perhaps not this year, but it won't be long before all of europe is included with your formerly UK only minutes and texts. Perhaps not on every contract, but certainally on some or as an add on.

Re: 3 Mobile - If You Are Then Read On

Stupid question but do you have to use roaming to get out of your contract using this as a chanmge to the terms? The reason I'm asking is that I am having issues with 3's coverage at my home and work (basically can't get a signal) and have 10 months to go.

No...although they do try and use it as a 'get out'.

Tell them you have a holiday booked to Australia as they also attempt to blame it on the EU.

Nice one mate I've managed to get out of my contract for free with 10 months to go. To be honest the network coverage for me was a nightmare but with the roaming issue as well I think they just had enough of me complaining and are going to text me a PAC code.
