I doubt you will se 6.5 pushed down through network operators. Most likely there will be a new batch of hardsets to force updates.
The new HTC devices are an exception if you actually have an HTC device rather than a network branded one. There will be a 6.5 update available for them.

Look for anything wm 6.5
It's funny how if this was a new desktop OS the thread would be closed because of piracy talk, yet Windows Mobile doesn't seem to count
Not sure if it would be classed as piracy or not as WM6.5 is still a test OS, it hasn't been officially released yet so it's treated a bit like windows 7 is at the moment.
There was also a thread recently on XDA saying that microsoft didn't really have a problem with it.
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.
Can the current WM handsets (is it 6.1?) be updated to 6.5 without much problem?
I'm new to this. I'm thinking of buying a WM phone, if I can upgrade, I don't mind getting one soon, if I can't or I'l need a whole new type of phone, I shall wait.
Any HTC phone should be fine. I've been running 6.5 on my kaiser/tytn2 for a while now(recent builds are a lot better than they used to be). Never had any problems installing it or running it.
Great thing with the kaiser as well is you can play with android on it(you still have windows on the mobile but you then run android seperately and it stays as android until you reboot your phone(which you wouldn't normally do anyway).

But there were W7 threads locked because people started discussing leaked builds and where to get them, not just the official public beta (build 7000 i think?) or the RC1 release.
MS are probably turning a blind eye for the moment because the XDA-Devs community is probably responsible for a huge number of handset sales, perhaps even keeping the platform alive
