    HTC "Hero"

Anyone seen much of this new phone from HTC? It is the first phone to be launched with a "skinned" version of Android. Multi-Touch, 5meg cam, SD expansion, 3.5mm headphone socket..... looks rather nice and like another rival to the iphone.

Shame it's not coming to Vodafone, lets hope that there's port of the O/S for the Magic as it looks good.

I'm more peeved that it doesn't appear to be coming to O2, of course because they do their XDA range, but will we actually see any Android phones on O2 at all? Stupid iPhone dominating it all..

    IIRC they said they would

Hopefully this would come to Orange and O2, so there is a reasonable amount of competition on it, so I can get something other than an iPhone when I upgrade.

Not until Android get's close to WinMo's business/professional feature set I don't think..at the moment it is miles off, but then again its not had long to mature Android is much more consumer orientated at the moment than WinMo, and the XDA's are all business phones.

Give it a few years and if Android is still around as a platform you might see it picked up for XDA..

I want to play with the new version of Android though..just got an earlier version up and running on my Touch Pro (sadly no sound drivers yet though lol..) which is fun, but would be awesome to see this new version on it!

    Re: HTC "Hero"

I was going to go to the dark side an get an iPhone 3gs but as o2 are a complete rip off and only offer all of their iPhone contracts with a max 500 inclusive txts I will not be.

I am very glad to see an actual challenger to the iPhone comming out even tho it is going to be on orange who have some of the worse customer care on this plannet. A phone of the hero's quality is going to make me go back to orange.

HTC are very good with their custom interfaces. I really liked their windows mobile one, a dam sight better that the default.

Indeed, they really do raise the bar.

Its funny because whilst the swishiness isn't up there with the iPhone, its funcunationality, and at a glance handyness just hits the sweet spot so damn well.

    Re: HTC "Hero"

Deffo decided on this now, will be cancelling my O2 contract and unless i get offered a free iphone and some insanely good contract I won't be staying. Awaiting a call from Orange when they get their demo handset / stock of the handset to go in and talk contracts...

Any idea if I will get charged any further than basic line rental from O2 for cancelling my contract early? Also is it worth first ringing O2 and asking to downgrade my contract to the lowest available, then when this has gone through ringing them back again to cancel?
