    New Phone

Due for renewal on the 16th.
Not bothered about keeping my mobile number.

Using a K850i at the mo but really hate the "touch" buttons on it, daughter has a habit of dribbling in the phone and there the first things to go..

I was originally looking at the C702 and C905.

Would like to surf the net better than I can on the 850.

As much as it pains me I keep looking at the iPhone, does the new one do what it should of done when it was released or are there other alternatives out there that have all the features they should?

    Re: New Phone

I used to own the iPhone. And if you surf the net a lot. I got to say hands down web browsing is the most enjoyable experience on the iPhone, it's just so freaking ridiculously easy. iPhone's touch system is also the best in my opinion. All these other brands try to mimic the iPhone slide function, but I doubt it's as smooth as Apple's. I stopped using the iPhone because I felt it was a bit too big and bulky, plus I don't have a habbit of playing with apps and don't do much web surfing, push mail is what i really need. But yes if that is all in your favor. Hands down my man, the iPhone is a great product. HOwever, HOWEVER, when your iphone crashes. That's annoying as you can't remove the battery haha. One time I had to wait till it restarted on its on because it wasn't being responsive to the standard restarting method (holding the lock and menu button pressed).

    Re: New Phone

Size is one of the things thats putting me off, I dont really want something thats big and bulky so I'm kind of in a catch22 situation.
I had an SE-P910 a good few years back and it was great, did everything I wanted, was like a brick tho and if I went out at the weekend (granted I dont get out much anymore) I would take the sim out and put it in my old Nokia..

    Re: New Phone

    My phone upgrade route for the past 5 years: K700 > K750 > K800 > K850 > C905

The C905 is the best of the bunch by far.

K700, 750 - terrible joysticks which broke after 3 months and I vowed never to have another SE phone again (I lied)

K800, 850 - replaced the joystick with a "joy-button" (fnar!) which went the same way and again, I vowed never to have another SE phone again....

C905 - everything is perfect. I'm 6 months in and haven't had a single issue.

    Re: New Phone

Pretty much the same route as me then on the phone front, the 905 is on my list with the 702.
Had similar issues with my joystick (!) but also had issues with the "touch" buttons on the 850...

Hows the 905 for web stuff?

    Re: New Phone

Touch buttons, I forgot about those, they went the same way as the joystick. They removed those from the C905 too, thankfully.

C905 has WiFi which is a Godsend, normal (WAP) webstuff is fine, WiFi is better. I've started using it instead of my laptop when I want to find out something quickly too.

I had thought of getting a netbook but the C905 has quenched my desire for a while. I'm not saying it's a netbook replacement, far from it, but it's miles better than the K series.

Aye them touch buttons are a PITA.
Had to dry mine out again lastnite, Liv got hold of the phone, about 5 seconds later the phone might as well have been dropped in a puddle..

    Re: New Phone

Yeah SE makes good phones. I personally never had problems with them I used to have the K750i. worked great for me. never had a problem while everyone else around me was having joystick problems hahaha.

ANNOUNCEMENT: over the weekend i got fairly drunk. the next morning while a bit out of it, perhaps a little hang over I drove over to the gym and as I was getting out of my car, for some reason i decided to open the palm of my mind while my Nokia e71 was in it. It hit the asphalt quite hard. no real signifcant damages, just a few small scratches. BUT now 6 of my qwerty keys dont work, when you press them they type out random other letters instead. my down button is replaced by enter now instead. I have no idea how this happened from a drop.... has anyone experienced a similar problem? I plan to send it to the shop soon as I can't reply mails or msg anymore. OH AND my space button does not work, it's been replaced by "@" since it is the key right next to "space", how lame... So much for a stainless steel cased phone that I adored for the first 2 months. I can't believe it's so fragile..... ITS A NOKIA, THEY SHOULD BE NUCLEAR DISASTER PROOF! Remember the old 3310's? You could probably flush them down the toilet, find it in the sewege container, clean it, dry it and have it work fine the next day lol.

Very Very good choice - but have you considered a blackberry? Just for the love of god never get an iphone! I have one - and my friend has the latest - he regrets it terribly.

Nah, looks like the HTC is the best of both worlds, WM so it'll do worky stuff and geeky enough with ROM cooking etc, and it's got cut and paste which we all know is really cutting edge, well, so they try to get us to believe on the new IPhone adverts..

    Re: New Phone

Ive had a HTC Touch HD since January now - got one of the 'cooked' roms on it - for obvious reasons I wont go into this any further though.

I work as tech support for residential pcs and recently mobile phones - so I get to play with all the SE, Nokia, HTC, Blackberry and Apple Iphone offerings. Apart from having a higher resolution and physically bigger screen that all the other phones, I find the Touch HD a joy to use even if it is slightly slower than an Iphone.

To get the best out of it though, make sure you get some form of data package with your mobile tariff. Oh and just use the normal website (mobile) of facebook and dont bother with the app if your into the social networking scene as the browser is excellent.

    Re: New Phone

I'm really no Apple fanboy, but 2 weeks into owning it and i'm absolutely loving my iPhone 3GS, more than any other phone i've ever owned.
My phone history, from what i can recall, is, from year 2000 onwards,
Motorola Moto (? - the one the spins around a circular centre), a couple of low end Nokias, SE K750i, another SE model as a 'loaner' briefly, and now the iPhone. And probably another phone or two that i forgot about. The point being, no phone i've ever owned before has been as fun, as useful, as memorable as this one.
Gosh, perhaps i am becoming an apple fan... !

    Re: New Phone

I think HTC is an excellent choice. And while C905 is great for picture, its sort of bulky and dont think I'd recommend it tbh. A lot of my friends have it and most of them seem to be having s/w issues.
And where I work aswell, we get quite a few complaints about the battery, the phone knocking itself off etc.
