O2 confirms Samsung i7500 Android phone

Yet another great looking Android handset, this time coming to O2 very shortly...

The new phone, which first appeared in the July issue of the network's catalogue under the 'coming soon' section, will be hitting the shops in August.

Unfortunately, O2 is being predictably coy on pricing, giving us the tidbit: "more to follow". However, there is confirmation that it will only be appearing on contract, although SIM-free sites have started to list it too for nearly £500.

Although there's no word on whether O2 will be stocking the i7500 Galaxy exclusively, it's yet another phone in the stable for a network that already has the iPhone 3G S on a multi-year exclusive deal, and apparently the Palm Pre and Toshiba TG01 coming soon.

    Best specc'ed Android yet

The Samsung i7500 Galaxy phone obviously comes with the 1.5 Cupcake update, a 5MP camera with flash and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

It also packs 8GB of internal memory as well as microSD slot for expansion, all in a 11.9mm frame, making it the thinnest Android phone on the market when it lands.

If O2 also as expected announces the UK exclusivity of the Palm Pre it means the Network finally has some good alternatives to the iPhone....

Re: O2 confirms Samsung i7500 Android phone

    gay.

typical same samsung boring slide look.they all look the same and so cheap and clunky with crap buttons.

as for the google side *thumbs up* only thing it has going for it is the camera.

memory's pants for 500quid seeing as a iphone 3g s 32gb is 548quid delivered from apple's rip off site directly! and o2 aswel *shudders* look forward to paying nearly half of its retail... look at the iphone... 50quid+ contracts and you still have to spend 187quid to get the 32gb phone!

yet vodafone or any other network give away 450-500quid phones such as the n97 for example for free with 40quid contracts and o2's are 18 or 24month ones aswel:O

sorry not to sound fanboy of vodafone but o2 really wind me up.

i'd more than happily sacrifice some nice voda benefits such as stop the clock/internet package/unlimited texts/LOADS of minutes plus using them with stop the clock =000's of hours all for say 40/50quid a month for an o2 iphone 32gb 3g s IF it was a free phone. but no they stitch you right up and give you sod all package wise. and tethering charges aswell! pfft!

oh and ontop of that if your actually a faithful customer they stitch you up on the upgrade aswell! ridiculous behavior for loyalty! the other networks work hard to sort you out a good deal. not o2:/

so instead i'm going to have to reknew my contract with a rival phone sell that phone then buy the payg iphone 3g s 32gb and go against apple and void my warrenty and jailbreak it just to get a decent network and not get killed on the cost... all because o2 are so greedy

Re: O2 confirms Samsung i7500 Android phone

Well for me it has always been the awful Samsung UI that has otherwise put me off some well specified phones. Android obviously would fix this hugely and be a far more tempting proposition than the tocco and similarly recent touch screen rubbish from Samsung...

Re: O2 confirms Samsung i7500 Android phone

I desperately want a new phone and I'm waiting on O2 to offer something decent because I get 30% discount on any contract taken out. The Galaxy looks ok but it's running vanilla Android, I kinda fancy one of those custom UIs some of the other manufacturers are pushing out, e.g. HTC.
