Now the rumour is "late march", but all still rumour until it comes from HTC:

Yeh I saw this too, and it comes from "official sources" so it's fairly believable. As long as it's no later than end of march then I think I can carry on waiting.

Quick update for Hero users...
There has been an update made available through the HTC support website that appears to fix various minor bugs and includes a new 3 x 3 people widget. Can't give much more detail at the moment other than what I have read on other forums - Radio update to 8.3, Speed increase for Touch-Flo and Wi-Fi.
As more details become available I will upgrade myself I suspect, just a real shame it's not the Android 2.1 update we're all really waiting for!

URL is correct, there just isn't a new ROM for the stock hero
That's from last year as is the latest one on the HTC site.
Sorry guys, clumsy mistake, assuming it was for stock Hero also...

It's right that there's a ROM update for Orange phones (Feb 2010). However, approach with caution - many people installing it are finding that they can't then re-install apps they've purchased again... Worth letting the dust settle before making the jump given that it only provides little fixes, rather than 2.1
well there is a few newer than that, just not on the HTC webby.

worth a visit every now and again

Yes but they require rooting the phone. Personally i'd rather stay official.

Ummm... Like I said?! LOL
I suppose I didn't use OVERSIZE CAPSHowever, approach with caution - many people installing it are finding that they can't then re-install apps they've purchased again... Worth letting the dust settle before making the jump given that it only provides little fixes, rather than 2.1
Just picked up one of these from T Mobile, got a really good deal - £51 for the handset, 2 year warranty (since it's a 24 month contract) but 300mins, unlimited texts, unlimited internet all for £15 p/m. After a year with a BlackBerry Pearl it's a HUGE improvement, and text messaging and internet is what I easily use the most - the perfect contract for me.
I also blagged a 8gb MicroSD to be thrown in too!
I assume this will come with some sort of T-Mobile branded O/S? I assume it's not so difficult to stick a proper HTC one on there - I was looking at some of the fancy ones on XDA-Developers to plop on there.
that sounds like a brilliant value contract!

Thanks! I was fumbling around trying to get good deals everywhere, Orange were very stubborn despite my amount of calls and o2 didn't really seem bothered about me leaving, despite being a longtime customer and a o2 broadband user. T-Mobile were real nice and friendly which was a good change lol.
I also needed some reassurance that this was a good deal since this is quite a long commitment haha.
yup
mmm harder than it was last year since you will most likely get a newer firmware handset and you will need to use the "Gold Card" method on it to get non-tmobile firmware on
just the latest generic HTC one is an improvement over stock t-mobile, that's what im stucking with at the mo
