    Opera Mobile 10

Opera Mobile 10 is now out in Beta form for Windows Mobile.

    http://www.opera.com/mobile/

you can get it directly on your handset by going to http://m.opera.com/mobile/

Installed and is now the default browser on my Touch Diamond 2 running 6.5. Set itself up to work from the browser tab straight away too.

Initial thoughts: I like it. A lot more polished than 9.6 was, more touch friendly, more like a desktop browser, does a really good job of Wikipedia something that 9.6 failed at. It takes a little longer to launch than 9.6 did, but it's still beta so fingers crossed that will improve.

Must have done. Downloading the installer again using it.

I hope an actual HTC build appears at some point, there is no support for the zoom bar and when you launch it from the browser tab, it always tries to find file://localhost/home, can't so gives an error. This it's also re-loading the browser every time, so you loose anything in any open tabs when you come out of it.

It's definitely good for a beta though. Hopefully either the final will sort these issues, or an HTC build will.

actually its very nice. click a text box like this one im typing on now and it becomes the only thing on the screen. doesnt lag as much in landscape either. slightly bigger screen and a faster proccy and this could be called useable.

nice and fast here although it did cause my Touch Diamond to reset itself this morning which I've never had with either 9.5 or 9.7

I've had 9.x (whatever was bundled with the TD2) completely crash and reset my handset in the past. Wasn't anything to do with the page either, seemed very random, even m.facebook.com has caused it in the past.

A couple of other issues with 10 beta: when zooming in it doesn't 'lock' to a column, it also doesn't stick to a column when scrolling down a page. makes reading long articles quite annoying. Although it does make me thing this is a completely new browser which they are still adding functionality back into, rather than an improvement of the 9.x series. Perhaps it's more like a port of the desktop browser, like Safari on the iPhone is a port of the desktop browser (at least as far as the engine is concerned)

    Re: Opera Mobile 10

I think it's certainly an improvement on the previous versions, but I'm a little worried the memory usage might be a bit big for my Touch Diamond. I suspect the TD2 with it's bigger RAM will cope more happily though.
