Winamp remote does that for music and videos, works on my current Tytn II so see now reason why it shouldn't work on the HD2.

Jackpot Allen :)
Now to price it up and wait for o2 to start selling it on their website for extra goodies ;)
Ooo might have to have a look at that as well...
Finally got mine today, and wow.........
I got it out of the box and just didn't realise how HUGE the screen is. It's ridiculous! But awesome at the same time!
Now I gotta get me some apps and tweaks, although this time round if I do go changing to a cooked OS I'll backup the original first.
I'm sure there was some comments in this thread about some things to install, like making the touch screen a little less sensitive and bringing back the "task manager" cross on the top right of the screen, but I can't seem to find them. Time to look through some old threads.
firstly. go to HTC's website and upgrade the official rom to 1.48. Also get the camera and sms fixes from the same page.
On XDA, the task manager cab is by dutty, but can't locate it at the moment. Should be easy to find though. I came from the kaiser and didn't have to de-sensitize the screen, but as it is a capacitive screen, rather than resistive, it takes time to get used to it(or you could get a screen protector which will de sensitize it,although reading all the threads, a screen protector isn't needed(you should see the sick videos on youtube of the damage they try to cause the screen without any success).
do a search for the HD video convertor, converts any video to the right codec and size for the phone and videos look awesome. Use the built in HTC video player or windows media as they are both hardware accelerated. Players like coreplayer are not.
there is also a graphics driver fix which is worth getting.
As for custom roms, 1.61 is floating about now. Apparently it's an unofficial official rom with camera fix and a new radio.
Took me a little time to get used to the phone, but now love it. there are some great apps as well on windows marketplace(like tuberun if you are in london and use the tube often).
It is a big phone, but you quickly get used to it and gasp in wonder at it's awesomness. It is a great phone. Congrats.
Cheers mate, will get some of that done now. :)
Hit my first hurdle, entered my SN and it says the upgrade is not suitable for my phone. Checked my phone and I'm using ROM 1.43.110.2. :(
Heh, now I can't get these apps to run under Windows 7... Will try from an XP machine, although I will have to install it virtually, can't be bothered to re-install XP.
My brother has one, the interface is very smooth but the usability is no way near the level of Palm's Pre or Apple's iPhone. It's a very large device too, thin, but large. The hardware's fantastic but HTC is battling against a platform not intended for touch navigability. I'm sure HTC will bring Windows Mobile 7 to this device shortly after its release, that's when it'll really shine, at the moment the execution is a little clumsy.
Windows Mobiles really are like little PCs, yo8u wouldn't run an installer on your laptop if you wated the app installed on your desktop
There are installers that fire up ActiveSync and instruct it to install the app on your device on the next connection. This used to be very common, but I haven't seen any of these in a long time, they used to be a lot more common in the PocketPC days.
I would totally understand that if you were downloading it directly to your phone from the net. As patches like this are designed to be downloaded to your pc/laptop, copied over and then installed, is it too much to ask for them to create an installer that does it via active synch rather than fanny about with the above process.
On test versions of 6.5 I used to run, it used to have windows update. Now on the official rom,it's disappeared. Wouldn't this have been a better way to install updates as it would check what you needed and do it all for you.
pff, the future is ANDROID. ;)

Windows mobile shouldn't have the windows brand name, it's nothing like windows, clunky as hell!
I'm waiting for 1.61 to appear on the official site. the main thing that ruins my HD2 experience is the lag in threaded texts. I heard 1.6+ helps with that.
